If they truly joined up to keep people safe and help their community, why can't they be introspective instead of doubling down?

They're figures of authority, they should be going above and beyond to be good citizens to set examples, not throw tantrums when their mistakes are called out.

because many who sign up to be cops are grown up highschool bullies, or military vets who miss being at war. that we dare to question them or criticize them in any way drives them into a red fury

Police unions and police publications use language that brainwashes rank and file officers into believing that the citizens they swore to protect are out to harm them at all times. They have the mindset of the US military when it occupies the Middle East - everyone is a potential threat and they are righteous in their behavior so they can do whatever they want.

no. not in most cases. and the ones who do, it's well documented that even if you start out with good intentions, but from day 1 of police academy, they indoctrinate you into being corrupt

From the public statements I have seen, they understand the brutality complaints. It's all the extra defund the police and other oink oink bullshit that's the problem.

Like they believe it's "us vs. them" because the civilians will never understand what it means to be a cop so they have to look out for each other when dealing with "the skels".

I think they're having a hard time understanding the one sidedness of it all. You see the posts: all 800,000 police in America are the same bullying, racists shitheads no matter if they've personally caught a serial child rapist, or returned stolen property, or just serve as some deterrent to drunk driving.

And in fairness, I think they're a bit used to that kind of view of their jobs. What cop also hasn't been told off by someone that they were giving out tickets instead of stopping a robbery (that could only have been stopped by being on site), or upset they couldn't stop a tragedy because they just can't be everywhere all the time, but seem to be there right away to give that jaywalking ticket.

It's hard to be introspective when it seems so much fo the world is angry at them because they didn't stop every bad thing from happening, and would rather paint them closer and closer to sociopaths with a badge than accept that as good as they can try to be, they aren't perfect, mistakes happen, and the odd shithead does get in and they would love to kick him out just as much.
