The movie was originally supposed to have special effects done by the late great Ray Harryhausen. Instead, the studio got cheap and outsourced the job to Mexico. The result is a hilariously goofy puppet monster. It has its charm (in a laughably bad kind of way), but the human portion of the film is genuinely good. Had Ray Harryhausen worked on the movie, it would've been one of the true gems of 1950s science fiction. I know it would be an absolute labor of love, but I'd like to see an authorized special edition of the movie which replaces the puppet scenes with stop motion animation. There are still stop motion aficionados out there who would jump at the chance to allow the film to be shown the way it was originally meant to be seen. --- 2020 going to be a CE kind of year ~ Panthera ...
