The last one wasn't great, but at least it still tried to be a goofy comedy, which is what the series should be.

The trailer for the new one looks like it's taking itself WAY too seriously. It's making it out to be a grandiose and nostalgic return to a franchise on the level of Episode VII, but...it's supposed to be Ghostbusters. And it doesn't look and feel like that, it's more like Stranger Things.

Tbqh I see the old movies as a product of their time, and any attempt to match that energy, even by doing the whole cheap nostalgia Stranger Things route will ultimately fail

the previous one tried to be a goofy comedy but it failed hard. I only laughed one time in the entire movie

this one might still have some jokes in it. but I think that overall it will respect the old ghostbusters more. the women's movie sought to totally dishonor the old movies and tried to replace them. this movie is set in the same universe as the old films. which is what the women's movie should have done. instead of trying to replace it as a reboot. this movie is a sequel. that's what people wanted.

The movie could be worse then the last one and people would still treat it like a masterpiece.

It still could be very funny. Too many comedy trailers give away all the good gags.

Yeah it really does. Is it actually supposed to be a comedy. I thought it was meant to be a more serious ghost busters when I watched the trailer

People need to re-watch the old movies if they think "goofy comedy" describes them.

The original is very dry, played completely serious, has elements of horror, and most of the comedy comes from the characters playing off each other, not from setpiece jokes.

This. Ghostbusters was rooted in a "we're out of our depths" premise working with some very dead pan performances to produce humor in their reactions to things. It's the antithesis of "goofy".

2016 GB doesn't feel anything at all like the original film. It's like 90% horrible improvised dialogue, like a Judd Apatow film with bad CGI ghosts slapped on.

Tbh, the Judd Apatow style is actually how everyone expected a modern Ghostbusters to be. When all those fan castings were going on years ago, there's a reason Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, and Paul Rudd were the main actors suggested.

That was my first favorite cartoon. I had more of the Real Ghostbusters toys than I did Ninja Turtles. It holds up well today too.

He's right though. 80% of the film's comedy comes from character interactions. There's some visual comedy in stuff like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the sock getting thrown on the Terror Dog, and a skeletal cab driver. For the most part, the comedy is from the dry delivery of one-liners and a little bit of situational comedy.
