Current Events > Was GameFAQs more fun now or when you were younger?

There's something about this site that makes me think the golden days are in the past. Maybe it's because there's nothing but pointless arguing going on here all the time. Most of the topics on here are people complaining about their lack of success or how messed up the world is. Maybe one or two decades ago, you would see a little more fun and innocence with the posts on here, but hardly anybody on here is in school anymore and all you see nowadays is bitter adults. Is it really like this, or am I just failing to see the glass half full?

younger. I miss the very early days. back in the super early 2000's, I used to post on the Paranormal board as my main board. and back then that board was very busy. it was at least as busy then as CE is now. if not more. now it's a ghost town that sometimes doesn't get a post for 24 hours

but around 2000 I remember having lots of fun there. even if a lot of the stuff was probably all bullshit.

WoT has pretty much become like a SPECTRE meeting.

Factions and meltdowns have made it far more fun nowadays.

It had a lot more spirit fifteen years ago.

Now. I didn't know about social/special interest boards back then, so I only ever talked about one game at a time.

Younger for sure. There was more activity and there weren't political trolls like there are now. Also create your own adventure topics were more active and common.

Personally it was less fun for me back then but it was my own fault. I'd get into those huge multi-post quote debates and the amount of time they'd take up would be stressful. Pedantic teenagers are dumb, including me.

I changed and so did the forums. There's so much depressing stuff posted on here constantly now that I wonder if I just dreamed about better times on this forum.

Younger love going to fighting game board/comic/wrestling and a couple of games board to talk about everything. Now I'm just bored and shitpost a lot on CE.

There are solid points for both, the key is to never stop having fun.

And arguably I'm having a lot more of it now than ever. What do I have to lose? My board is already gone. Karma? Big whoop. So I say what I want.

It definitely seemed less angry and more of a tight knit group back when I was 16-17.

That said, back then we freaked out if there were more than 500 active users on the site at any one time, so the smaller crowd would obviously lend itself more to those feelings.

I still have a blast on this site, though. By and large you're good peoples.

but i can't entirely disagree - watching meltdowns triggered by innocuous dissent will never get old

More fun in the past

Archiving killed the board communities especially the special interest ones like the paranormal board which i used to frequent a lot.

It stops discussions and need to make topics because there will always be some jackass board veteran who will act all smug and link to a thread where the topic has been discussed in the past. Like who gives a fuck if people want to start discussing sleep paralysis for the millionth time, they may have missed out when the topic was discussed the other week.

Def in the past. The old PS2 boards used to be extremely helpful (I actually discovered a lot of games I would have never played, like with god hand), and when you compare how the community used to be to the state the current console boards is in, its like.......damn. Just, damn.

Flame wars of the early 00s were my schadenfreude. If I found a topic with a toxic shartstorm I took that as my cue to finish my business and get the FAQ out of here. <P

Even though I first registered in 2003(the one I have isn't my original account), I didn't start to come here more often until 2010. So I can't say I remember too much how these boards were before that.
