A pedestrian walking through Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan, New York early Tuesday morning (June 9) discovered a Black man hanging from a tree near the Hudson River, New York Daily News reports.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the man and reportedly believe it be a suicide. An autopsy will soon confirm his actual cause of death.

The grim encounter comes within one week of two Black men being found hanging from trees in Californian cities that are not too far away from each other.

One incident occurred on May 31, when 38-year-old Malcolm Harsch was found in Victorville, California. Another similar hanging was discovered on Wednesday (June 10), when 24-year-old Robert L. Fuller was found in a public square in Palmdale, California across from Palmdale City Hall.

The hangings occurred 50 miles apart from each other and investigations into both are still ongoing.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were suicides. People are on edge due to the riots, covid, economy, etc. Those who have no supports are more likely to kill themselves, and we know that just covid alone was causing suicide numbers to rise substantially. Perhaps these people were bitter at losing everything, and instead of dying 'peacefully' chose to create a display which would help further what they believe in.

Of course I'm trolling because I present a different idea. I am not saying they did commit suicide with 100% certainty - only that it IS a possibility. I have taken a LOT of training on suicide and mental wellbeing.

Think about it, we live in a time where we are trying to fight for unarmed black people to not be killed, and there is a portion of people not just fighting back against the movement, but mocking the deaths. From there you start thinking about how many times this has happened, and how little actual change any of it brought. The end result is you feel like most of the country thinks people like you are worthless and don't deserve to live, and if you have certain issues those thoughts take over. I can't speak to the racism, but I can speak on the mental health side of things. I can totally envision suicides from people having thoughts like these spiral out of control. They should still be investigated by as many people as possible, by law enforcement and independent parties, but I can see these times being very troubling for people with mental health issues.

If this was at me - I am aware of the significance. With what is going on, perhaps these individuals felt it was the 'best' way to go to create a political statement or become martyrs.

That said, I am NOT saying 100% that they committed suicide. I am merely stating it was entirely possible. Rare, but possible.
