I am 350 pages or so into this book and literally nothing has happened.

All of them drag a bit but holy fuck. Rand is in caemlyn, nynaeve and elayne are in salidar and egwene is with the wise ones.

350 pages and none of them have done anything. also besides moiraine and lanfear dying last book pretty much nothing has changed changed since book 4.

Yeah the books start to seriously pad out going forward, but Lord of Chaos seriously picks up on the back-end. And has a great ending.

thats every wheel of time book

It seems a lot more pronounced in 6.

Kinda like how 1 and 2 had a fair bit of braid tugging but by book 3 its happening every other sentence if nynaeve is around.

Unfortunately, unless my recollection is off, the books after LoC kind of meander about until you get the last three where Sanderson entered. Like stuff happens, but there seems to be much less focus and progress than earlier books. Which is saying a lot, with Jordan's writing style.

I will say that the slog was worth it, because I really enjoyed the last three books.

Book six is the start of the infamous "slog". It's not that nothing happens--every book has major happenings--but the ratio of character moments+sideplot vs. main plot goes way up. The pace starts to pick back up in book 11; Sanderson gets a lot of credit for speeding up the pace, but really he just continued what Jordan had already started. The middle is slow because all of the strands of the story are spread to their widest point and it takes more pages to cover e.g. a week with 10 different groups than with 3 different groups. Book 10 is perhaps the epitome of this. Book 11 starts to pull the strands back in and weave them together (pun intentional) in preparation for the push to Tarmon Gai'don.

edit: not to take anything away from Sanderson; he did a fantastic job with a nearly impossible task.

Well it sounds like 7-10 are gonna be a bit of a grind to read through but its good to hear it picks back up again.

I like the series either way but 6 has definitely made me understand the complaints about it dragging on and on.

Tbh even if it just got flat out bad im invested enough at this point that id still finish it. Read a few other books between 4-5 and 5-6 and maybe that made it more noticeable too. 1-4 i just plowed through one after the other.

Honestly the best way to handle the slog is to power through. Spreading it out makes the gaps between things happening seem longer.

Yeah, this. First time through waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back I got stumped about a third of the way through Path of Daggers, and let it sit for a while. Tried to come back and was straight up lost as fuck and had to start all over again.

The grind is worth, tho.
