FortuneCookie 06/11/20 10:12:52 PM #1:	One year before Mickey Mouse debuted, Bosko appeared as a minstrel character based off of Al Jolson in The Jazz Singer. While the character does have certain dog-like features, he was registered as a black youth and marketed as such. This included a stereotypical dialect. Hypothetically, let's say that Mickey was on the outs because his design is copied from that of a racially insensitive character. Who should replace him? My first thought would be Tinkerbell. Toward the end of his life, Walt Disney himself seemed to shift away from Mickey and use Tinkerbell as a silent spokeswoman -- even appearing beside her on camera and having her open up for Walt Disney Presents. But that would only be a temporary solution if racism were the cause of Mickey's removal as Peter Pan is arguably the most racist movie of the Disney library. (Or possibly second after Dumbo.) It's depictions of Native Americans have a bulldog-faced chief and eagle-nosed braves. The movie also has one of its main characters refer to them as cunning, but less intelligent than the white man. Then my thoughts drifted to Elsa. A strong, brave, powerful female protagonist who has had a booming popularity would make a good mascot. But her origin is a villain in a Hans Christian Anderson novel. Who or what would your choice be?
