Current Events > Anyone play roleplaying games solo? Wanting to try it

I've never played a pen and paper rpg but I've wanted to, just never had anyone to try it with. I've heard that some people play solo. I'm wondering about any games that are well suited for this or any resources

@Bad_Mojo I'm pretty sure I've seen you talk about playing Dungeons and Dragons alone, apologies if I've tagged the wrong user

I play solo

I mostly use this -

That gives you a random map, all the rooms have stuff in them [encounters, traps, loot] and then you just roll for those

Example, here is the map I just got while giving you that link -



Then at the bottom it gives you this -

1] Purpose: Bedroom, for use by leaders
Current state: Furniture wrecked but still present
Encounter:Boss (Deadly)
Minor Feature: Torch stub

2] Purpose: Barracks where lair defenders are quartered
Current state: Rubble, ceiling partially collapsed
Trick Object: A cape
Trick Effect: Talks (normal speech, nonsense, poetry and rhymes, singing, spellcasting, or screaming)
South Passage: Door, unlocked.
Minor Feature: Rags

3] Purpose: Kitchen for food storage and preparation
Current state: Rubble, ceiling partially collapsed
Encounter:Easy Encounter
South Passage (Green): There is a large door, locked securely (DC 30) and magically sealed.
Minor Feature: Dampness, wall

4 (Entrance)Purpose: Audience chamber, used to receive guests
Current state: Used as a campsite
Key: Runed Orb and Recess
When the orb is rolled into the recessed pit, it causes the door to slowly open at the green passage.
Minor Feature: Cobwebs

5] Purpose: Workshop for the construction of weapons, armor, tools, and other goods
Current state: Pool of water; chamber original contents are water damaged
Encounter:Medium Encounter
North Passage (Green): There is a large door, locked securely (DC 30) and magically sealed.
Minor Feature: Dust

Then you just add your own mobs [Encounter = Medium, find a Medium encounter on your own or click the link and it will give you one to fight]

This gives you race, class, age, background, family members, what they hate, what they like, their personality, and other things

So what's what I do. I either roll up a random dungeon and try and clear it, or I go on a stupid little adventure and make up shit in my head

No problem

You can make up combat rules if you want instead of learning 5e's rule set. Or you can even get RPG Maker when it goes on sale and make dungeons in there, a custom party, and try to beat it. Game makes random dungeons as well

Okay, I have

• 11 NPCs so far [Going to make 2 more, I think]
• Each of them have an opinion on each other
• Tension between two parties
• Logical options for players to join either
• A few side quests to gain favor
• 1 main plot that connects them all together
• A random encounter table with 10 results [Events and Battles]

What I still need to do by tomorrow night -

• Draw maps
• Figure out some treasure for looting, buying and finding
• Figure out a money system [No way am I doing X Copper = Y Silver, too much math, lol]
• Actually write out the quests. Holding back on this because I don't have a working printer and I want to type it out. I know kind of what I want to do, I just need to write a script for it. Usually it's just me, but now I'll be a DM
