I love their songs and their style. Did not know the name Antebellum had any relations to the Confederates or bad Southern ties.

The literal definition of it is something before a war. its not also an architectural style. Its just used to describe architectural styles from before the war...because it means before the war. That's like saying its a style of dress when in reality it would just be using the term to describe the style of dress from before the war.

Antebellum doesn't refer to solely a pre-Civil War period, although I would see how it's easy to think that, since it's the most famous American antebellum period. Antebellum is a term that has existed since antiquity.

The problem is that clarification isnt going to be clear to most people

doesnt matter what their actual meaning is for the band name. The fact is its a word that has connotations glorifying the pre-war south aka the times of slavery

their intentions may have been good but its easy to misinterpret so why not just change it?

similar to much lesser known bands Andrew Jackson Jihad changing their name to AJJ or VietCong changing their name to Preoccupations

sometimes the choices we make come across in a manner different from what we intended and making changes to ourselves based on that is progress... not some lack of integrity

sometimes the choices we make come across in a manner different from what we intended and making changes to ourselves based on that is progress... not some lack of integrity

Not to split hairs but there's a difference between lack of integrity and a compromise of one's integrity.

And certainly being pressured into modifying something that was neither ill-conceived nor malicious in action, because of an external influence, can be viewed as a compromise of one's integrity. This may ultimately not be Lady A's take, but to scratch your head and wonder why people won't give into pressure or to say that their integrity was never affected is a little misguided.
