Coming from a black mod, I've never questioned the mod team's commitment to handling violations pertaining to race and prejudice. There really isn't much more perspective that we could give to help handle those marks any more efficiently, which is why the diversity of the mod team isn't as big an issue as some folks are making it out to be. 99% of the racial marks I see are clear cut violations that anyone with decent judgement would remove, no matter what race they are.

So then what about the next step above you?

Why isn't openly stating you're a proud Neo-Nazi and extolling the virtues of "national socialism" a guaranteed first-offense ban regardless of account age? Giving someone like that a second chance is bad enough, but five times? That's beyond ludicrous.

That's not my call. I don't always agree with the outcomes of moderations. I'm also generally not heavily vested in what happens to a user past what my position requires of me, as long as their offending post is gone.

Mods don't give an explanation when they mod or even towards disputes

don't act like you're going out of your way here

I mean, personally I leave notes on any mods that need explanation... disputes dont get a response anymore because its a voting system instead of a single mod responding to the dispute at each tier.

Not saying Im incredibly fond at not being able to answer them, but its a tradeoff for a more efficient system, where disputes are handled quicker (seriously, between the 3 tiers they could sit there for a long time).

This has everything to do with the mod staff proclaiming itself correct 100% of the time. Someone questioned them so it wasn't treated kindly. If they did a 180 tomorrow and made a statement, they would of course be 100% right. If the guy then wanted an overturn, they would uphold the moderation anyway because "at the time" they viewed themselves as 100% right to hold the opposite position. This happened to users during the Smollett situation as well. There are certain mods here who will never admit they made mistakes.

I'll settle for having people that can do the job competently. That's hard enough as it is

I agree with FrisbeeDude in that a site where racism is against the ToU should have people that are frequent targets of that racism in a position to do something about it.

But at the end of the day it still comes down to Allen. You could have all the diversity in the world on the mod staff but if Allen is still of the mindset that endless Purgatory cycles work (when it clearly doesn't at any level you could deem a success) then it doesn't matter.

There's no sense in wasting your time applying if you know you're going to be rejected. We've already had tons of people leave in protest and the only thing that's happened over the years is that Allen's relaxed the rules, which has only brought in more of the wrong type of users.

Also why are you pushing this as if it would have resulted in someone like The Admiral being banned quicker than he was? It wouldn't.

It's true, Allen is very accepting and tolerant of racism.

For example, De Evolution, who has gone on multiple holocaust denying rants in the past, called Terry Crews a slur in a topic a couple of days ago. Allen decided to purge him.

I don't think that you guys want to hear Allen's take on BLM.

Clunker can tell you that Gamespot has its act together. You should see how they handle complaints about moderations, it's like a competent company. Their staff over there recommends using a site feature which gets you moderated and insulted over here if you use it, so I won't even mention what it is.

Since I'm a conservative, I always thought that anyone could claim anything is racist and often it's a lot of smoke but no fire. But I look at what's going on right now and...I don't know if it's intentional, I don't know if their actions are just clueless. Who was that mod who went on for several pages defending that dog lady, before finally several people corrected him? And this guy is reading disputes, he's reading marked messages, he can't seem to pick up on this.

I have some catching up to do in this area. Does anyone have a master thread documenting this stuff? Wanna make one of there's not one? Send me a PM.
