The 1982 masterpiece, of course.

I have watched The Void and enjoyed it immensely.

If you're looking for the grotesque, you're looking for 70s and 80s Cronenberg. Did you see Annihilation? That's a more recent one that I feel like that kinda fits too.

Thank you, I always forget Cronenberg.

I quite enjoyed Annihilation.

Already seen it and loved it dearly.

The novel is tripe, however.

The Thing is my favorite sci-fi horror movie, even over Alien and Aliens.

I can't really think of anything similar in nature that's comparable in quality.

Other films with an *appropriate* sense of sustained tension:

Event Horizon (1997)
Pandorum (2009)

[ I thought of a few more, but they're "found footage" style. ]

Why not, They Live?
It hits most of the same notes, and then Keith David and Roddy Piper beat the utter shit out of each-other for six and a half minutes - and they're even friends in the film.

If you're interested in another Roddy film, look into Hell Comes to Frogtown.
It's fucking terrible, but in a good way.

Is it terrible in a Buckaroo Banzai kind of way that manages to transcend its own awfulness and becomes great?

Is Phantoms the Dean Koontz film? That was a quality film.

I shall investigate Prince of Darkness
