I'm gonna sound old fashioned and disgusting.

But I drink coffee that I pour by hand, without the use of a machine, and I drink it black.

Nope. Terrible coffee. I guess I understand why they're so successful when it comes to their non-coffee drinks like their mocha floppaccino or whatever it is. But jeez a straight shot of espresso from Starbucks doesn't even have crema, and their pour over coffee is stale as shit.

I went to a Starbucks once.

I looked at the menu, laughed about the prices and left.

I've had their grounds from the grocery store, and they're always burnt.

So it tastes that way on purpose?! I thought I just had bad luck and always got a pot that had been sitting for too long

Get fresh roasted coffee beans from a local roaster, leave them whole. Grind them fresh right before you make the coffee. If everyone did this once in their life, Starbucks would probably go out of business the next day.

I like to use a French press, which calls for a more coarse grind than usual (so a cheap blade grinder is OK for this, even though professional baristas will insist on a more expensive burr grinder, but that's unnecessary for this). Heat the water anywhere between 195-205F, very hot but not quite boiling (hotter end of that scale is better for lighter roasts). Pour the water over the grounds (about a half cup worth of grounds for about 30 oz of water, assuming your press holds 32-34 oz, adjust accordingly). Put the lid on, let it brew for 4 mins (take off lid and stir after 1 min). Press and serve. Any coffee you don't drink right away should moved to a thermos to keep hot, it'll get bitter after too long in the carafe with the coffee grounds.

I recommend a medium roast if you like your coffee black, or medium-to-dark if you like milk. Really dark roasts like French or Italian roasts will be too bitter for this method given the extraction time, and lighter roast flavors will be too delicate.

If you want a light or dark roast I would recommend a manual pour over drip using virtually the same info except a "medium" grind, not as coarse as the press grind.

It's ok when you're in a pinch, but there really is better coffee, cheaper.

No, but I used to go to a local Cafe. Now I've started to brew my own for absurd savings. I didn't realize just how much I spent on coffee smh.

how?
We get money at work to use for food on campus and we have a Starbucks on campus that we can use our money on.

Since I work earlier during the summer (and don't use as much of my food money since not everything is open), I use what extra I have budgeted every day for something in the morning.

I used to.
Hate to say it but I think I'm getting old :/ lol
Back in my college and early career days I frequented Starbucks. I loved the lattes and whatnot and the ones I made at home just didn't taste the same.
But now I notice myself rarely going out for coffee and using the same reasoning that the "old people" used to say when i was younger.
"Why waste money on what I can make myself?
That stuff's too sweet anyway, I just want a cup of coffee, damn it!" Lmao
