You're always paying for things in a relationship, whether it's financially or emotionally or physically or whatever. Both people contribute in whatever way they can, which might be in different ways. People can contribute in different ways. Maybe he's really wealthy and can introduce her to lots of new experiences. Maybe she makes him feel alive again. Maybe she just likes the security and confidence he brings to the table, which men in their 20s don't tend to have.

There's nothing really to judge here. I think it's naive to think otherwise, though. Find me a 20 year old woman who's dating a 40 year old man and 9 times of 10 it's for one of those things 20 year old men aren't bringing to the table- financial security, impressive displays of power, confidence, etc. etc.

What 40y have you been looking at? They can still easily compete in looks, health and fitness. That and.....what do most guys her age even have to offer over most 40 year olds who are likely far more responsible, financially secure, own property and so on?

Characterizing it as a payment is what I object to. Yes people benefit in relationships. They get something out of being with the other person, but nobody is "paying" for it in a healthy relationship.

a big one is the simple fact i know my family would judge me a bit for dating someone 20 years younger than me.

i know it's cool to not care about what others think but I think it's okay to embrace this when its your family. my sister especially would probably think i was really weird for doing this

There is literally no downside, my girl is already nearly a decade younger than me (27 and 18) and it's by far the best relationship I've ever been in.

Yeah this. Normally the age gap is the mental age difference. So if the guy is 40 but hes mentally young around 30. And the woman is mentally mature, also around 30, then they'll fit.

And that's not always the case. I'm far from rich and my 18 year old girlfriend still loves me and never asks me to buy her shit. Sometimes they just find older dudes attractive.
