I keep telling my sister that, but she'd rather use the fact she wasn't instantly good as self deprecation fodder.

Sad thing is she has a REALLY good base to work from. First time drawing and the only issue was random bumpy spots in the lines.

I used to draw and idk why I dropped it but picking it back up. I never really got that good, despite doing it for years, but I was fair enough.

Actually I think it was a combination of life and being shamed for how long it took me to draw that did it. Went to a free sketch class and got told basically 3 hours was a waste of time and too long to spend, and anything longer was even worse.

There's the old adage that the second best time to start is today.

But really the best way to learn isn't to just do it more. The best way is to learn more and practice. This is where books and courses are going to be helpful. You might only learn so much and develop so fast on your own unless you are literally a prodigy freak of nature.

Learning and practicing techniques and adding them to your tool box is where the real development is.

Go to the park and draw what you see. Draw the trees, the people, the animals. Do it until your hand hurts.

Once you feel youve improved then go back to the park again! And this time pretend youre a hawk flying overheard looking down. Now draw everything you see but at that angle.

Everything I have seen so far is basically you have to sketch as fast as possible, then do it over again. I bought a cheap graphics tablet for my birthday and I'm having a blast with it.
