Unlocked the Punisher. Now I wish I hadn't put money into my original handgun. Also this asshole has loads and loads and loads of ammo here. Sell me some you prick. I get it'd probably break the game, but...don't have it all out on display.

Hmm wait and follow commands kinda ties back to RE0. Damn she's got a health bar? Should at least be able to carry some of my shit then to increase inventory space. Gonna be eating up my precious herbs. Wonder if I can feed her yellow ones to increase her health. Plenty of room on her bad. But Leon's health comes first.

God damn defending that cabin was exhilarating. Shit was so tight. Came close to death 3 different times. The flash bangs seem to kill the head poppers right away so that's damn useful. Shotgun spread is a lifesaver. Luis pulled his weight too. Man that was great.

I hate escort missions usually but RE4 does it well. Ashley ducks when you aim at her, she stays behind you and you can tell her to wait and even hide sometimes.
If Ashley gets carried away or dies it's totally the players fault.

Escort missions have improved in the past 2 generations (mostly by just not doing them), but this is a fantastic job considering this was the PS2-era. Staying, following, hiding, ducking like you said. She doesn't feel like an actual burden at all. The AI isn't fucking me over and like you said, if she gets nabbed (only happened once) it's on me.

So cleaned out both paths. Filled the crown mask thing with all 3 gems and sold it for a high price. Swimming in dough right now. Pretty fucking stacked on ammo too. Could use some more health items though.

The gonadal was pretty fun. Shot out all the tossed whatevers and nailed every enemy. Them falling down with just one shot was a very satisfying decision.

Now to go fight that tall dude, steal his eye, come back, open the door, get out of this dump, grab a beer with Luis and wait for all this to blow over.

All right. First, there's an upcoming attache case upgrade, get that. The Riot Gun is another shotgun with extremely minimal spread; I personally recommend against getting it. Don't buy the Broken Butterfly because you will get one for free later on (I'm sure the posters in this topic will let you know). A rifle is going to make your life a lot easier. The BAR has been available to you and has very high damage, but the upcoming SAR doesn't interrupt you between shots and does more than enough damage itself and it's what I personally recommend. It does take up a lot more space, however. Get one of them either way, as some parts will be rough otherwise.

I am now in a castle? Chapter 3 I take it. And with that, I have now officially surpassed the point I made it to back when I was 15. It's all uncharted territory from here on out. Loving this game. I think it's actually aged amazingly if you can get over the initial hump that is the dated controls. It's still super fuckin' tight. The pacing is really well done, spreading these sort of set pieces apart and boss fights. The way you can run around the area kind of reminds me of RE3's city section. The story is straight up action movie, but the tense tone and real threat of the enemies does supply the horror.

Might call it a night here and pick it back up tomorrow.

Oh, as for the handguns:

The Blacktail and Red 9 both outclass the default handgun; fully upgraded, the Red 9 will do more damage per bullet and the Blacktail will do more DPS with a higher capacity, as well as having 1.5x the aiming speed. The Punisher is probably the worst handgun in the game and I wouldn't bother using it unless you're doing a challenge run. However, you might find yourself relying on the TMP over your chosen handgun and it's not unreasonable to drop one over the other. Also, coming up, the enemies you fight will have a different melee animation for leg shots; it has around a 30% chance of instantly killing and will additionally prevent Plagas from spawning if it kills.

It sucks.

Go ahead and grab it, though.

It's free and you can turn right around and sell it back to him.

Final note: The Red 9 is the best handgun and I will literally fucking fight you over this.

I always get the Red 9 stock personally.

The TMP one isn't really necessary.

The scopes are mostly useless, the areas are small enough that the default scope is usually fine.

Red 9 stock is kinda worthless, but the rifle scopes are great and the TMP stock is very good.

For what it's worth, your playstyle sounds more suited to the Red9. If you're going the "headshot, then melee" thing, you may as well have the gun with better firepower instead of the one with faster fire speed.

Fucking overhead belly to belly suplexes. Red9 feels real good. The mace enemies are a bit of a pain with Ashley in confined spaces. Also killed her by knifing her by accident once. Only time she's gotten in the way really.

Kinda feel like we shoulda went with Luis to get that cure. Seems super important.

I just replayed this too. First time since GameCube. Red9, Semi Auto Rifle, and Striker are the guns I went with. Also had the butterfly magnum, but only used it on some bosses. I hoarded so many grenades and an RPG and never really used them. You really don't ever have to heal Ashley

Great game, but RE2make was better. The QTE stuff sucked

I am so fucking pissed. I was ROLLING! Headshots. Suplexes. Grenades taking out 6 guys at once. Got to the crank puzzle part and was crushing it. Then someone picked Ashley up, aimed with my Red9 and fucking killed Ashley. Livid.

Well at least the checkpoint was generous.

Also just discovered double tapping open makes Leon kick doors.

BLESS you @Garioshi for the tip on picking up the rifle. This would have been a nightmare without it.

Oh and got one comment on the part before this where Ash had to stand on one platform and Leon on another to open the door or whatever. Those giant yellow platforms were the first thing in this entire game not to fit with the aesthetic and come across way too video gamey. Sure made it easier to figure out what needed to be done in half a second, but still. Surprised at how well everything has looked thus far too.

I'm guessing you're doing the infamous Water Room. Probably the hardest room in the game with a couple contenders far later on. If you can beat it, you can beat anything else.

Nice of them to give me back some ammo in the next room. Was actually running very low on handgun bullets. Had 40 rifle rounds stocked up for that and don't think I even used 10. 38 shotgun shells. 2 of each type of grenades. Doing pretty well. Could use more healing items, but picked up a first aid spray.

Salazar hijacking my codec calls now. Leon also says "cuz" instead of "cause".

The fuck is this? A shooting gallery? This is bizarre.

Oh yeah. The big claw guy? That was an alright little fight. Pretty easy, but good variation. Mainly just kept hitting him in the back with the shotgun. Tried the knife and got a hit in on his back tumor, but then on the second attempt he caught me with a swipe, so I just played it safe after that.

He kinda reminded me of Nosferatu looks wise. MUCH better fight than that though. God.
