I feel like they're trying to copy The Good Place. Just in how "show starts as something but then evolves into something so much bigger than original premise" except for Westworld more like devolves right.

Oh haha so it turns out humans are in "loops" as well huh, just like the robots on Westworld. Wow what a twist, puts the "Matrix within The Matrix!" theories to shame.

You guys think that supercomputer would be able to peg you and be right about what you'd do?

Aside from the finale, season 3 was great. That "premise" is also the arc that most tv shows follow lol...so I'm not sure what the complaint is there. The Good Place didn't invent it.

I enjoyed season 3 more than season 2 because of how different it was. I still think it tries too hard to be confusing though.

I'm actually liking it all things considered. Not usually a fan of HBO shows but when they're just right, it can be fun to watch. Show is very stylistic and some pretty good performances.

There's a line in one of those post-credit cast commentaries where the writer makes some comment about how "people are so stuck in their routines that maybe the robots are the real humans" and that was the moment when I realized that they had no idea what they were doing and it explains why season 3 is such a Trainwreck.

Now that streaming on demand and suchlike are a thing, could there please be a special feature that allows us to watch a show in order once it's done? All the back and forth in time intrigue can be sort of fun, but that's all any show does anymore.

I enjoyed it as I was watching season 3 live as it aired.

But then I got to the finale, and realized how bad the whole season was. Yeah it was fairly entertaining. But the story is just god awful.

S3 was very generic overall. I wasnt impressed.

Also, the show has a weird habit of both overestimating the audiences intelligence and underestimating it to an insulting level. Like yeah, we get it. This war world isn't real. Then it goes on for like 15 minutes. Everyone figured it out in 2. Then on the other hand I still hear people not understanding if the man in black was a robot or not all this time.

Also also I forget, how does Maeve have psychic powers? Don't feel like rewatching, how did she end up being basically Neo the one from the matrix and "seeing the code" and whatnot.

And actually being able to use said powers in the real world? The heck?

It's best not to think too hard about Maeve. Not only did she grossly underutilize her powers this season, but it's extremely hard to take her character seriously when in season one she gave herself literally maximum intelligence and cunning and she still falls for the dumbest things.

Edit: oh, and to answer your question about her powers. In season 1 they mention in a throwaway line that the way they deployed patches to the robots is that every robot maintains a local network to all the other robots near them. So they only have to push a patch to one and then drop him into the town and the patch naturally spreads over those networks over time. The whole subplot with the Native American near the end of the season was in part because he was so far off network that he didn't get any updates, and that's also why the control room tracked robots that hadn't been refreshed in a long time.

Maeve was able to use those local networks to push her own code changes to nearby robots which is why she can control them. The reason she's the only one who can is because when she woke up in the repair center and gave herself maximum intelligence she also gave herself admin access which gives her unrestricted control. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why no other self-aware host bothered to give them self that ability.

How fast is their AI? What I liked about Her is that it showed that AI can be so smart and so fast that talking to humans is like talking to a 5 year old at a snail's pace, their processing is just so much faster than a person's. So the robots should be a lot smarter than humans and barely able to withstand a conversation once they gain sentience and don't have to pretend anymore.

The show doesn't really try to explain itself that way. Much in the way that you can just assume that hosts have some sort of weird infinite battery supply.

Honestly, any computer system that would interact with a human would likely have speech processing on its own thread, so they wouldn't be bothered by the speed at which humans talk because they should be able to perfectly multitask, so while listening they're probably doing a trillion other calculations that are in no way slowed down by having to wait for the person to finish talking.

They're also immortal and only superficially have human characteristics, so they might not even really be bothered by impatience.

Lol maeve and her samurai sword, basically just rule of cool. There's no reason why she didn't use a shotgun and there's no reason Dolores was humoring her with a hand to hand fight instead of a bazooka or whatever futuristic weapons they now have.

There's also no reason why Maeve couldn't hack Dolores' rifle, or why her flying tank couldn't just shoot through that weak wood and take Dolores out. Or why she refused to remotely lock Dolores' limbs until like the last episode even though they clashed a bunch of times.

Maeve's storyline is interesting, but the writers have no idea what to do with her given how powerful she made herself, so they just pretend she isn't basically a robo-god.

Like, it would be fine if they maybe made it so that Dolores was able to be on a different network (or something, I don't know how it works) but did Maeve lock her limbs? I thought that was Charlotte/Dolores. Or whoever she is supposed to be now.

Speaking of I wonder what Charlotte Hale Dolores is gonna be now. The whole making copies of herself thing was already kinda... I dunno.

They're all Dolores, so if her locks work on one it should work on any of them. If the show has some excuse for why it doesn't work on everyone, they never shared it.

I think the idea is that even though all the fake Dolores' came from actual Dolores pearls, they diverged in behavior and motivation because they were also infused with the memories of the person they were taking over, which altered their personality over time. Charlotte/Dolores realized she was being used and is herself a combination of a cut throat business executive with no moral compass and a genocidal robot, and the result was a more aggressive "new" form of Dolores.

Oh right. I think because Dolores was in that old model body she got put in after the EMP and, while stronger and more durable, was probably a less sophisticated system and so more easily hacked. Either that, or Charlotte (who probably put the spare body there in the first place at Dolores' request) added a killswitch just in case.
