That really has nothing to do with it. You can't take 2 negative things and make a positive thing out of it. I'm not gonna make excuses for the cops not handling protests just like I'm not gonna make excuses for the riots and looters.

What is your preferred outcome? That the cops come out in droves and battle it out with the GDs and Vice Lords? Then you would be bitching about police using too much lethal force.

This is the thing people dont realize. Cops get shit on every fucking day.

No one likes being approached the the police, people let you know you just ruined their day because you pulled them over and now theyre late for work. You were speeding, its my job to pull you over.

It isnt easy to wake up knowing most people dont appreciate that you get paid shit money and are often shit on for doing your shitty paying job. Add to that oh I get to be the person who actually rushes to a dangerous situation. Thats fun, responding to a domestic violence call or an active shooter for 27k a year.

Selective based on what criteria? If my car was being pelted with rocks in certain neighborhoods I might be hesitant to go to those neighborhoods. I'm not a cop though and I don't want to be a cop nor make their rules.

Should they jump in the middle of every gang shootout in southside Chicago? That is debatable tbh.

The collateral damage from getting involved in that could be high. Also the average gang banger in Chicago is like 16. You want them to go shoot a bunch of 15-20 year olds?

speaking for myself, I've been pulled over walking home from school and for work, only because of the neighborhood that I was in.

and my dad was a teacher, so he had vacation the same time students did at college, so he'd sometimes walk around the neighborhood during the daytime, and once police pulled up on him with their guns out.

and stuff like this isn't exactly rare.

I'm not going to criticize each and every police officer, but I'm not going to say that apprehension/negative feelings when dealing with them are unfair.

Council Member Phillipe Cunningham retweeted the thread saying police slowdowns after cut budgets had been his exact experience as a council member. Council Member Alondra Cano was also among those who chimed in, with a similar, but more concise note.

Fletcher says the entire council to some degree has been discussing disbanding the police department as an option. He doesnt yet know what that will look like. He suspects its a transition that will take time, and the involvement and possibly voting capacity of residents.
