According to the county website my neighbors all went up by like $8k - $13k

And three of them have bigger, nicer houses and the total valuation is lower than ours

Houses are depreciating assets. It's the land they sit on that appreciates.

do you live in an area where the tax assessors are city employees? if so you're fucked getting the assessment lowered. found out a few years into living in the house i'm in now that the assessment value included a garage that has never actually been on the lot since i've lived here, apparently they dont even do a simple drive by assessment... bitched at them to fix the issue, and when they finally did they actually raised the assessment value another thousand...
