This aint surprising in the slightest to me... black folk over here treat each other the same way now, and of course many white people do this too.

In my school days (15-20 years ago) this was common. To black folk you werent black if you didnt play ball and listen to rap etc, and to while folk, you werent black if you didnt act negroid (but you were still considered a negro)

I had a lot of black friends, and they all take their original nationality pretty importantly and seem to know others' nationality. I told them that I couldn't tell lol so they were trying to describe the subtle differences. Then I was talking about how most East Asian ppl could tell apart Japanese/Korean/Chinese, and they had no idea.

I dunno if it's related to the topic but I always found that interesting.

Japan is way more xenophobic than the United States lol. They don't just allow everybody in the country. She must of not been out and about in Japan because there's plenty of stories of the way gaijin are treated there that aren't wrestlers or mma fighters.

I have heard way too much about that stuff. maybe she's just been really lucky or she for whatever reason doesn't think certain things are as bad as others might see them. she kinda says that in the interview. I think maybe because she was raised in that culture she just has a different perspective on racism. I bet lots of black americans would disagree with her if they visited Japan.

This is a load of shit and what pink skins use as an excuse for their own racism. In japan almost every racist stereotype towards other races is perpetuated by american media and racist pink skinned sexpats that go overseas. The only thing people in japan care about is if you're respectful to their culture, if you are then they will just mind their own business.

My uncles husband is French New Guinea and he gets the same flak. He gets told he isnt black enough all the time and he would never understand what its like to be a black man in America.

Younger japanese people seemed to show extra love to my black friends though

This all comes from how they are depicted in western media. I've even had a Japanese dude tell me a Caucasian dude told him black people were bad. Japan is a country where no one cares about how you look like in terms of race, any form of racism is only out of ignorance, without them knowing it is racist and it's never meant with ill intent.

The only thing people care about is if you do the work and respect their culture.
