Which means a lot of things unfortunately.

Bathophobia generally means fear of the deep great depth of any kind such as a cave or an empty abyss. What I'm afraid of is specifically the deep ocean depth. Now I'm not afraid of the depth of a pool, small lake or river. I'm not afraid of some deep hole in a cavern either. I'm not of afraid of the ocean itself. I can swim at the shore of a ocean beach, go on top of it via the pier or even ships no problem at all. It's only when you submerge down deep to an endless darkness that is still very unknown to mankind that it starts getting to me. Knowing that you have limited movements in water doesn't help at all either.

Water levels in Donkey Country games gave me anxiety because the backdrop is of complete empty ocean darkness. Eccho the Dolphin game terrorized me as well. My older brother once got a game called Treasure of the Deep and it was awful for me.

It was hard but I eventually got through Bioshock 1. Seeing the ocean floor kinda helps. Dunno why I don't feel the same way about space.

In space no one can hear you scream but in the ocean if you scream fish will go in your lungs.

Space Engine makes space scary. Zooming around and seeing those strangely colored galactic strips far away and zooming into a planet for a long time only to realize it's bigger than you thought.

And approaching a black hole in No Man's Sky.

Does nothing to me. I think it's mainly because stars and planets illuminating makes it feel safe. We're taught that the sky and space is beautiful. Or maybe it's because it's something we see on a daily basis that makes it feel not scary to me.

I remember when I was a kid we were deep sea fishing. At one point during that trip I went to the back of the boat and stuck my head in the water and wondered if I could see the bottom.

And it's just an empty blue abyss staring back with faint reflection of the light from the sun. So awesome.
