By that I mean I'd be open to the idea that I might change my mind on not having kids and I'd tell people the same thing. Recent years' worth of events have pretty much hammered in my head that it's not happening and it would be an impending disaster were I to do it.

I wouldn't even be able to take care of a dog.

I used to be one of those people, I don't think I had bad intentions it was more a case of finding it hard to comprehend an alternate point of view. But I was in the wrong.

Having kids was something I always wanted, more than anything else in my life. So the idea that there would be people out there who would be totally opposed seemed hard to believe.

I try to be more respectful of people's opinions and feelings now, especially when it comes to women. There's no right or wrong way to feel on the matter of wanting kids and no one should feel pressured into it.

yeah, it's lame. I actually kinda wish I had gotten more flak so I could be more emphatic and really drive the point home. it was just kinda "but ur so good with kids!" Went from 'maybe someday but not soon' to 'probably never' to 'absolutely no fucking way' >_>"

The more you make them feel like they are insulting you when they suggest it and you genuinely dislike discussing it (as opposed to being indecisive or wishy-washy about it), the better the chances of them letting it go probably. But yeah, being a guy, a couldn't say for sure if that would definitely work for you.

Maybe for some people its few and far between. There are definitely people that make awful parents and I imagine they dont get much out of it.

Being a parent is pretty incredible for many people, including myself.

I think it's mostly parents who say stuff like that, like their kids helped give their life some direction. I actually kind of want kids myself, but I feel like I wouldn't actually have enough time to dedicate to them if I did; ambition and all that. (Plus adoption is some serious WORK.)

This is my experience too. Like that's great that you love your kid and it helped you find purpose in life, but I knew you when you were a depressed alcoholic. Your life was shit before. Im not in that same situation. I dont need that same type of direction.

For some people, the view on to have children / not have children changes with age. You're so young Harp that it really shouldn't even be on your mind. After time passes, you may decide differently or you may still feel the same. As for other people pushing it on to you, it's not their business and that goes for your parents / relatives.

I didn't think I would want children. As I've gotten older, my view has flip-flopped and I do. That's why I'm so happy to have Squidgebear in my life.

I always thought that about people who aggressively try to talk other couples into having them. Especially when it's not a family member or even a friend in some cases.

It's like they want others to suffer like they are.

People like to tell us what we should be doing with our bodies for whatever reason. Especially when it comes to children. Its the most annoying shit. I want them but cant have them, and Im bombarded with questions from people all the time. Sometimes by complete strangers. My husband rarely ever gets asked anything. What goes on with our uterus is really no ones business

Its not like its on my mind all the time, but I have decided that I dont want to bring anyone into the world. I love children, and its nothing against them but I know myself and know its a very bad idea.

Maybe I will change my mind, but it would take nothing short of a miracle. And that would be my decision, no one else would be convincing enough to change my mind for me. So its why I honestly take offense to people assuming they know what I should do with my body

Cleo youre 100% right. Its absolutely no ones business to ask a woman about why she doesnt have children. She could have fertility issues, just had a miscarriage or for other reasons be unable to concieve. And then that puts you in an awkward spot, because its extremely personal and likely painful to talk about.

Its rude and entitled to ask, because they have no idea what youve been through or why you may not have kids. A lot of these conversations have a sexist tone to them too, as if youre less of a woman for not having kids. Even if they dont outright say it, the implication is there and its infuriating

I felt the same way, once.

I was utterly resolute. I loathed and abhorred the thought of having children. Then, after a great deal of work on myself and after becoming older, I realised that somewhere along the way, my attitudes towards children had changed.

That is not to say that you shall change your mind, but do not leave yourself closed to the possibility.
