I mean, you can still love the multiplayer... but you gotta like the single player for this topic

...

What stands out about your favourite? Smooth controls? EZ macros? low APM? Funny Story? Interesting random events? Wut?

my favorite strategy games would be a long list... might be my favorite genre

playing Stellaris right now. It's excellent (with all DLCs) in a lot of ways, but it really seemed like it was released unfinished, and it still only feels 95% complete right now. mostly the AI is not able to plan properly with all the new building mechanics they added, and the technology cost scale seems way off, where the first half of the tech tree is slow, and the second half you plow through extremely quickly. (basically, the game is good right now, but way too easy).

are we talking specifically about strategy games, and if so, why did you bring up ogre battle

Ogre Battle is kinda a strategy RPG... this is my Month of Ogre Battle so I'm doing a daily topic themed around Ogre Battle and strategy games in general

Do games like Disgaea and FFT count? Or is it only games like C&C: Red Alert and Warcraft?

Disgaea and FFT count, I'll even count Civilization and Crusader Kings and such (which is why I mentioned Random Events)

Sure, I like Chess. My bro is really good, about 2350 elo, so I encourage him to hit the tournament circuit and get big but he's not into that.

FYI, the S in SRPG actually stands for Simulation. At least, in Japan, it does.

Are we counting board games? >_> Also what's up with this "Month of the Ogre" thing? I figured I'd go back to the first post for context, but there's nothing here either.

Oh, it was a topic I made a while back - I'm doing a month dedicated to Ogre Battle

Final Fantasy Tactics is my childhood FF7. Its at the top of my list for Final Fantasy games, and one of the few games I can definitely place in a Top 10 of All Time list which is rare for me because I don't really have any personal rankings. I really love a good Job system and FFT had quite a bit of customization. I also really like being able to recruit monsters even if they're not the most useful units.

In general, I really love turn-based strategy games even if I'm absolute trash at them. Not big on RTS though. I prefer to take my time when making decisions. Along with FFT I'm also really into the Disgaea and Fire Emblem series. I also enjoy games like Civilization mostly for the empire/city/colony building aspects.

aw shit, realized I never answered the question. Idk man, one point I might of said Disgaea, but I think i've burnt myself out playing the first one so many times. Then there's FF Tactics, same thing though I've only beaten it once but i've like gotten to the 3rd chapter or so dozens of times. Ogre Battle 64 was a good one I was really into for awhile but it took a long time for each battle, like an hour per battle for killing and liberating everything, plus like 20 or so minutes between battles doing army stuff, that by the 3rd or 4th chapter i'd be burnt out again.

Valkyrie Chronicles was a good one, Hoshigami I really liked at first but you spent way more time in the training towers than the game cause every few battles or so the enemy jumped like 5 levels ahead of you. The Arc the Lad Games are pretty decent. idk, I think I just burnt myself out on my past favorites and can honestly say I do not have a favorite right now.

I'm also going with Tactics since I'm not much of a strategy fan and, tbh, I hadn't much considered FFT a strategy game.

Forgot about Valkyria Chronicles. I loved the first one, but never played any of the others.
