And then someone said it probably happens to white people too so its just not on camera as much. That they are just looking for an excuse to look because you loot at the demographics it's the same people.

And that they are blowing this out of proportion like the Covid-19 stuff where 99.9 percent of people are jsut fine.

Well, I don't doubt that some people (not all) are taking advantage of the protest just to loot and destroy. They're opportunists.

Is calling someone a racist on the job a fire-able offense?
I don't know. I was not looking forward to this 8 am call because based in his Covid comments I knew this was coming. His boss was there and she's always good at saying decent things. Wish they would talk to him or soemthing.

You can always request they not discuss politics at work.
I had to do that at my last job when we had a new guy join who was clearly fucking uncomfortable getting asked about his opinion on things.

Should I tell him or our boss?

This is a lot to unpack. I wouldn't have the energy to start unraveling this. It's like they've combined every bad faith argument into one.

You can tell him that you'd rather him not discuss it when you're in the room.
But be civil and polite. If he argues with it, just say something like "okay well I thought I'd ask" then you can go to the boss.
But document time and honestly, I'd record it and then write down the exact conversation word for word
