1. No, you really can't. Suppose you're wearing four trench coats. How are you going to find the flexibility to put on a fifth?

2. You know how when you go outside and it's hot, you're like "Ugh this is mildly to moderately unpleasant" but when you go outside and it's cold, you're like "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH CURSE THIS LIFE, CURSE THIS PLANET, IF THERE IS ANY JUSTICE IN THE WORLD, I WILL DIE RATHER THAN ENDURE THIS MISERY A MOMENT LONGER"? This is kind of an underrated factor in this debate.

Like have yall ever been outside in the kind of cold where your boogers freeze instantly around the rim of your nostrils?

i would much much rather spend a half hour in hundred plus degree heat than in -20 degree cold, where its painful to even keep your eyes open. You cant cover up enough to make that manageable

It's also bullshit when people say you can warm up faster than cool down. Nah, I walk into my air conditioned house after mowing and I'm done sweating and comfortable in short order. When I walk into my heated house after shoveling the driveway my limbs are still fucking frigid a half hour later.

1. If you're wearing a trench coat to stay warm, you're doing it wrong. A wool peacoat and fleece earmuffs is enough to keep me generally warm enough to get from my car to a heated building and back again.

In my experience, this argument is usually about keeping the thermostat between:
  • Cold: 68-72
  • Still cold to some people: 72-75
  • Hot: Fucking 78+
  • Still hot to some people: 75-78
In an office where you're wearing a shirt and pants, hot temperatures are even worse. But even outside an office, 80 degrees in a house full of people is stupid.

That actually kind of makes sense, but it's not so much about there being some biological inclination toward different temps between the sexes (I'd be interested to see if this is a thing though) so much as dudes in the office wearing darker colors and more layers than chicks in the office. I think it's kind of an outdated notion in some places, since most everybody in my office for example wears khaki/tan pants--male or female--but it's not like suits and dresses don't still happen. Executives, interviews, presentations, etc.

It really depends on the climate.

Where I live, it's very humid. The humidity is what makes it unpleasant, not the temperature.

'Winter' only lasts about a month and a half and it only gets down to like ~10 degrees C.

This.

There's a much, much lower ceiling for it being hot, compared to a ridiculously low floor for it being cold.

Plus, outside of extreme heat, the worst thing that happens when it's hot is you get sweaty and uncomfortable. Even in mild cold, you can develop frostbite and hypothermia.

First of all, the quote TC made is about thermostat temperatures.
Second, 90 degree heat is common where I live and working in the heat can absolutely be dangerous.
Third, what is "mild" cold? To many people, that's 72 degrees or lower. I don't think you get frostbite at 72 degrees.

Lol bro mild cold is like 20s and 30s

and youre talking working in hot weather whereas merely being outside for five minutes in extreme cold is life threatening

like schools have snow days here sometimes simply because it gets too cold for kids to safely wait outside for the bus

No its real. Women actually do get colder then men while men tend to run a little hotter. The thing with the thermostat though is that as much as feminists want to whine sexism, women can put clothes on if they are cold in an office, men can't take clothes off.

lolbro I've literally had many people tell me that 72 degrees is, "brrr freezing," then turn up the thermostat (or try) and put on several layers of clothes.

Extreme heat is also life threatening, Severe heat waves often produce large "spikes" in mortality, especially during the 1995 heat wave across the Midwest. However, abnormally cold conditions have little effect on the standardized daily mortality. For example, February 1996, a cold period across much of the United States, produced no spikes in winter mortality levels. Similarly, from the 2016 U.S. National Climate Assessment: The relationship between mortality and an additional day of extreme heat is generally much larger than the relationship between mortality and an additional day of extreme cold.
https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/Which-Kills-More-People-Extreme-Heat-or-Extreme-Cold

Both extreme heat and extreme cold can be life threatening. But, again and again, "just put on more layers" refers to office temperatures.

Objectively, extreme heat is better than extreme cold.

Extreme heat is extremely uncomfortable. Extreme cold is literally painful.

No amount of lairs will keep you comfortable on an extreme cold and windy day. Drink plenty of water and you can slog it out a terrible hot/humid day.

And if you work an office job, safer conditions for your commute on a hot day than one where there's snow or ice on the ground. Then you hit the office and it doesn't matter anyways.
