I have the first game just havent played it yet.

Anyway Im curious about this whole situation, but I dont want to be spoiled if that makes sense. I heard that Anita Sarkeesian is involved somehow.

Are people still mad because there is a lesbian relationship or is there something more?

Hm? No, Sarkeesian is not involved. People are just mad because the contents of the story that were leaked are something that upset them. The story is something that these fans are unhappy with. There are also of course the bad working conditions at Naughty dog. That's about it.

There is the crowd who's made at lesbians and a buff girl, but their opinions are generally worth very little.

The big story leaks recently have many people concerned that the writing is going for cheap shocks and the new Hollywood trend of "subverting expectations" akin to Game of Thrones season 8 or The Last Jedi rather than telling a coherent story or having any kind of satisfying character arcs.

I havent looked at the spoilere at all but I bet its not as bad as people are acting. I still plan to play the game for myself and see how it turns out.

Something about unhappy employee being denied bonus after crunch so he leaked some stuff.

And turns out in the leak, it really fucks up the beloved characters for political and 'creative cool' factors.

The leaks revealed that, without spoilers, what you built up on the first game is going to be destroyed and its very anticlimactic and stupid.

That would be admitting that they're treating their employees badly. Imo, they still dont know who the leaker is. Its all damage control. I think it was sony that came out and said it wasnt anyone from the inside.

i've seen one character repeatedly referred to by a slur against trans people because they have muscle definition.

It's just not good from a storytelling standpoint. After reading the leaks I thought what would my motivation even be to finish this game?

seems like a big jump to make out of a bunch of out of context scenes/plot points, especially given the first game was praised for dealing with well worn tropes in a very well executed way

And without the leaks, TLoU2's release date would likely still be TBA.

As someone who got the Platinum trophy in the first game and beat it on the hardest mode (Grounded), do not buy this game

Even if you don't care about the laughably bad story that completely forgets what the first game was even about, the multiplayer (which was probably implemented at the very last minute) will be a separate purchase and the campaign gameplay barely looks any different from the first game.

I gotta admit, "realistic" is not what I think when I'm unloading into mushroom head man tanks, but everybody has their own line. Mine was around the time I fought that enemy. Others are the introduction of a unrealistically muscular woman. TLoU goes for grit more than realism imo.

Anyway TC, as you can see the controversy is clearly wrapped up in the shoulders with some alt right tips throwing their takes in the mix.

i mean, the virus in TLoU is based on an actual virus that really exists, Cordyceps, that can actually take over the brain function of the hosts it infects similar to what it does ingame, only none of the strains that exist irl affects humans, only insects and stuff.

Ultimately this is just background flavor. I'm aware of this fungus and was aware of it before this game was announced. That doesn't make unloading magazines of AR rounds into walking human fungus tank a realistic experience.

And it is certainly less realistic than the presence of an athletic female in a post apocalypse.

Nah, the musculature complaint is mostly a meme I think. One of those things people add on because they're already angry.

And it's not necessarily subversion itself, since that was the basis for the first game.

While I'm talking about realism, I'll give my more honest thoughts on the musculature "realism":

People accept the gamey aspects of zombies because they are playing a game, and are willing to accept those breaks because they know it serves the gameplay. So what exactly breaks the "realism/immersion" barrier gameplay wise will always vary, and generally speaking burly enemies that are bullet sponges usually do it for me (especially if they're difficult to beat). One example for me is actually the final boss of Gears of War 1. It's the worst part of the game and it was really damaging to my immersion/enjoyment of the ending. However, others will differ. I would say the only game that didn't break the "realism" vibe this gen is probably RDR2, so I have a pretty low threshold for breaking that feeling compared to the average gamer I think.

A person's physique, however, is a design and story choice, which I think gamers view in a different lens. It is easier to accept more ridiculous porportions, bodies, or resilience in enemies when it serves the gameplay I think. That being said, without more context there is no real telling how "realistic" the girl's physique is without more details of what she was doing in the meantime. It is not unreasonable to imagine relatively safe strongholds with stable food supplies and exercise equipment. And as far as I'm aware, we only know a handful of details about her past. It's presumptuous to assume these can't be the case, and I'm not even sure the question would be seriously considered if an extremely jacked dude showed up at some point in the game, despite that physique also being similarly unrealistic.

At the end of the day it's a cruel bait and switch for people who rightfully loved the first game. Druckmann probably has something prewritten into TweetDeck about how the fanbase is at fault for expecting the story that they wanted to see told. Even if you took out all the dumb shit alt-righters are complaining about like a lesbian relationship, there's still plenty to get angry at.

Don't play it thinking there's a sequel on the way either, since the sequel has very little to do with the story in the first game anyway.
