I got the physical edition for switch which came with a ship and two weapons

The game is a very good open world space adventure, with fun space shootouts and seamless flying between numerous planets in a system. Conceptually its a lot of fun, with (so far) a decent amount of variety (Ive heard it becomes repetitive).

but because I got the physical version, i only get three weapons to choose from. In theory I would have to buy the toy weapons to add to my arsenal. There are something like 15 different weapons types, all sold separately. Or I could buy the deluxe collection which contains all the launch weapons and ships... currently priced at $60

its a shame because open world space combat is a genre that deserves a big budget series, but in a way its nice that such a naked cash grab like this flopped

Of course, the upside of that was picking up the plastic doodads on clearance.

I got the Star Fox version and played it for an hour

It was fun, but I never went back to it for some reason. I should finish it.

Too bad, too. It's the best Starfox game in the past couple decades or so.

i honestly have no idea what they were counting on for that to be successful in the form it was in.

it seemed to get deep discounts almost immediately

It was a cool idea that was just too late to the party.

Yeah although the Arwing toy edition was a pretty dope deal for $10.

If by "hammered" you mean "included in the box" then yes it was "hammered"

Yes the toys didnt sell nearly what they wanted so it dropped in price immediately and they canceled a wave 2 of ships and weapons toys, instead releasing it as another fucking $50 expansion to add five ships and 12 weapons to your game

This part is actually cool. Star Fox and crew are included in the base game for Switch, integrated pretty seamlessly throughout the whole campaign and with exclusive Star Fox missions involving Wolf etc

You guys think a Star Fox game that used the same kind of idea but with Amiibo ships would have sold like hotcakes or would have still crashed and burned cause it's Star Fox?

The game didn't required the addons and that probably scared people into thinking this was gonna be another Skylanders clone that went nowhere. The PS4 and Xbox One editions were even worse without the Star Fox figures.

The game only doesnt require the add ons if you buy the digital deluxe version

the version you buy in store requires all the bullshit toys or for you to basically spend another entire games worth of money on the DLC

EDIT: technically it doesnt require it as you can complete the game, but you are stuck with only three different weapons if you dont get the add-ons, and there are elemental weakness and strengths you are missing if you play through the game with just those three
