When I first started hearing about the hate, I was like "it's probably overstated"

Then I watched the movie. Holy shit, I've never seen a more garbage movie. Even Chris Hemsworth was cringy and annoying.

Ghostbusters 2016 was not a very good movie.

That being said a lot of the public reaction to it was wildly over the top and it certainly wasn't over the movie's lack of quality.

Yeah this is another TLOU2 incident really. There probably is some merit in the film being terrible (I only saw the trailer but it was pretty bad), but there must be some kind of reason that the hatred was so over the top? Why was there such an outpouring of criticism and hate for a single film

I think it was the combination of the cringe trailers and all the actresses just being really unfunny. They deserve the hate they got.

The thing is that the level of hate was so much greater than the weak trailers warranted. People make terrible looking movies all the time, but very few got the kind of immediate backlash that Ghostbusters did. It wasnt, by any stretch of the imagination, a normal reaction.

Acting like an emotional fanficiton writer and crying something akin to "you just hate me" is not going to get me to like your movie. James handled that situation so well. Just released the video saying he wasn't gonna review the film and never talked about it again. Outrage died down real fast because he just didn't rise to that shit

Yes, the misogynistic responses to the movie were and still are absolutely disgusting, but at the end of the day, they made a mediocre reboot of a beloved film that nobody particularly wanted. I'd like to see them eventually just take some of the blame for that.

There wasn't as big of a misogynistic outcry as they claim, they used that as an excuse to constantly attack fans who dared to dislike the film.

Even if the film did suck they still made it worse with their inflammatory treatment of fans.

There was, but I think Fiegs initial comments exacerbated the issue. Were still feeling the impacts of this whole fiasco today. Nobody can just make a mainstream female fronted movie anymore without a legion of trolls deriding it for pushing a SJW agenda especially if its in a typically male dominated genre,

You also can't dislike those films without being labelled a misogynist man child. It cuts both ways.

Movie maker blames Trump winning on his crappy movie flopping.

Ironically, people like him are part of why Trump won in the first place.

Also I will always hate this movie for existing because it wasted an entire season of South Park. The movie prompted an article titled "Women are funny, get over it" and the South Park creators literally milked that joke for an entire season. And it was the worst South Park season since the 90s.

It's because hardly any of the movie was scripted

Kate McKinnon was the only one of any worth in that film.

There was an aggressive campaign against this movie compared to other 80s reboots or whatever.

But it probably still would have failed because most of them fail.

I'm not convinced the next Ghostbusters will be a big hit either. If it doesn't have enough of the OG cast I don't think people will bother. It could go either way though.
