At least in the tri-state NY area. Some campgrounds are opening, but ONLY for RVs, and not for actual camping with tents and shit. Because of COVID, all state campgrounds are closed in general, and county parks are heavily restricted.

Like, I am absolutely not one of the idiots demanding that everyone should get to cram back into bars and salons and send everyone back to work. I understand that state governments are trying to keep infection rates decreasing and make sure they don't resurge. I get all that. But camping is one of the safest things people can be doing right now. It is the ultimate form of social distancing. By default, it keeps people from cramming into buildings where they're more likely to spread germs, and keeps them outside where you're very unlikely to catch coronavirus.

I wouldn't be as bothered by it if they weren't opening beaches around here too. Yeah, hundreds of people congregating on beaches is fine, but maybe 30 people spread out in the woods is no good. Dumb.

Uhhh, You don't need a campground to camp in New York.
There are like thousands of places to camp in The Adirondacks alone.

Oh shit, I didn't see the Cuomo-cast today, but you're right! I looked into it and it says state campgrounds will reopen this week.

THOUGH, it didn't specify short-term camping with tents. When I was looking around today, I saw a few places that specified you could only rent a site for the entire season. Hopefully that's not the case.

Either way, thanks for the tip! I didn't hear anything about it in any local news today.

Where are you? If you don't mind me asking.
And what kind of camping do you do?

Wait state parks are closed? It's camping, literally social distancing to the extreme. Close the beach if the park has one, but camping should be open. If they are closed, I hope they open soon since I planned on going up to camp around Father's Day since my dad loved camping. I need to get up to the place my family goes to every year.

I can't see this. There is no way people can't camp in The Adirondacks. I just don't see that.

I haven't been this excited about camping in a long time. My dad died back in January, and he loved camping and every year he would take us up to Moffitt Beach on Sacandaga Lake, now I feel like it is my duty to get up there for at least a few weeks. We haven't been up in a few years due to health issues, but everyone now is in a good place and I'll be bummed out for a long time if I can't get up there. I may even spread some of his ashes up there, though I'll need to talk that over with the family.

You should and you should.

Or just go on your own. Get a Tent and do the thing.
I know you like to car camp. But roughing it is fun too!

I bought a tent a few years ago and haven't had a chance to use it, so that is definitely an option.

I live on Long Island. So generally when my wife and I go camping we head to mainland NY or the rural parts of Jersey in search of the more rustic campgrounds for tent sites. I avoid RV parks and resort campgrounds if possible cuz they're gross lol. We just need a water spigot and an outhouse and we're good to go.

I've thought about the prospect of just going out into the wilderness and pitching a tent, but since I don't live upstate, I'm not familiar with any of the areas. I'd be nervous about getting lost.

I can point you in the right direction, though, it would be a long drive for you.
But don't be afraid to poop in the woods, shit happens. LOL.

And most trails are well marked.
I don't really need trails, so that's easy for me to say. But most popular trails are easy to follow.

Get and ADK book would be my suggestion. I haven't need one in forever, but they are really well made, and do a good job of describing what you are getting into.

Side Note: I've heard people from 'The City' remark on how the silence is one of the oddest parts of camping.

But you haven't lived until you've heard Loons calling to each other several lakes away at night!!

There's an outdoor rave a couple hours drive away in my region. It's the greatest party ever. I've only been able to go a couple times because I'd need to take three days off work and probably another day to recover.

Now with no work would be an ideal time to go. But the place is still closed due to CV.
