A study from the University of Washington on the gender gap in Wikipedia editors found many female and LGBTQ editors feared for their safety. Several female editors told the researchers their work had contested by male editors or that they received negative feedback from a male editor.

A New York Times article from 2019 also highlighted the concerns some transgender editors have about volunteering for the site. One editor told the paper they received death threats.

I seriously hope that only things like death threats are being taken seriously while they draft a code of conduct. The idea that you can't give negative feedback to people of the opposite gender is ridiculous nonsense.

Is this user editors? How the fuck would anyone even know they are male or female or trans or whatever else unless these people are announcing it to the world? I mean honestly isn't the whole point of Wikipedia supposed to be about the free exchange of knowledge and information?? So how the hell are you supposed to do that if people are whining about being criticized?

Probably making a mountain out of a molehill. It's probably a 1% problem that they're overblowing into a news story for the clicks. Though as with any anonymous community, things can obviously get really fucked up.
