I always love being called a liar about my service, thanks for that.

Their biggest issue during basic was the M16A2 being garbage equipment issued out, they had to develop a system for unjamming the weapon because it would constantly do so, with those particular rifles, they would jam every 30th to 40th shot and you would have to perform SPORTS which was a 6 step process to unjam the rifle. At the end of basic, they have you fill out surveys about the overall experience and the drill sergeants encouraged us to complain about the M16 and that they needed better equipment for training.

This was in 2002 and from my own personal experience.

I know someone that got issued an M16 from Vietnam (with XXX stamp on the full setting because it was converted to Burst), so that doesn't at all surprise me that basic would get the same treatment.

I like the VZ58 but I'd take a decked out AR over it any day. You could put so much shit on the AR before it even come close to weighing as much.

VZ58s are around the same weight class as an M16 when empty.

Yes your A2 was shit because it had been used since the 80s and Army armorers are fuckin dipshits. If you were a Marine or MP you'd be going on about Berettas being pieces of shit for pretty much the same reason.

The A4 is legit and M4A1s are legit. Way better than any raggedy ass AK you'd find on some dude in Afghanistan.

Army people in general do not necessarily have a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering and backrounds in assault rifle design. I've had a combat arms guy swear to god the whole "a 50 cal round can kill you just by zipping close by you from the shockwave". Then he pulled the whole "I've seen it with my own eyes!" card out of his butt.

People are dumb and Army people are people.

When I was in basic training, our drill sergeants literally told us if we found an AK on a body in combat, take it and toss our POS M16 into the dirt.

The M16 is made of cheap parts, its basic, it jams, it's frame is part plastic. The AK is built to withstand harsh conditions, rarely jams, and isn't prone to malfunction in sand. It's by far superior to the M16.

The M4 is better in construction, but still pales in comparison.

If your drill sergeant actually said that, it was a joke. If you lose an M4/M16, you have to pay Uncle Sam for it. And the M4/M16 is a superior rifle to the AK-47, which is an older, more primitive, less accurate, heavier design.

Damn 6.42 lbs you're right. Impressive, I'm not even 100% sure I've shot one but I know I've handled some because I almost bought one when they were only like $600 (I've done some really dumb shit with Combloc rifles over the years not knowing how expensive they'd get).

I'd still rather have/shoot 5.56 just due to recoil. If I'm carrying multiple mags for a long time then I don't want to carry AK mags
