First one is my boot SSD. The second one is my new one for game storage. It runs incredibly slow in games, so I finally benchmarked it and yeah... it's infinitely slower than my boot drive. What gives? What am I missing here?

The evo or the top one?
The evo is on par for the speed it's reported to have

Has to be a bad SSD

No way a normal one would run that slow

Hm, the top one is a 850 pro. Looks like I messed up. This EVO model is slow as hell. :/ What a waste of $100. It barely runs faster than my old raptor HDD did.

How is 550MB/s slow?
Unless you're doing high end video editing with a scratchdisk that's pretty fine for 99% of use cases

It's because my boot drive is like 5x faster than it and that's the speed I wanted to translate to my gaming drive, but I guess I messed up and got the evo instead of the pro.

Don't get me wrong it's faster than my HDD I was using before, but not by as much as I expected or wanted.

The 860 Pro got the same reading/writing speeds as the Evo.

You sure the boot drive is an 850 pro? Those are rated at 550MB/s as well. Looks like you have an NVMe in there.

100%. It's connected via a SATA 3 cable. The boot drive is an 850 Pro. People on another forum are telling me I fudged up by getting the EVO and I think that's the cause here. Boot drive below.

That's the standard speeds of a Samsung 860 evo though. It's not an NVME ssd it's a SATA one, the only NVME Samsung has (iirc) is the 970 series.

Though tbh there's multiple videos out there that show that there's little difference between game loading times between a NVME and SATA ssds despite NVME ssds having 5-10 times the write and read speeds of a SATA one. So I don't think a faster ssd is going to solve your load times, some games just load slow as fuck even with top tier storage.

Pretty sure the test tool you're using is messing up.

There's no way an 850 pro would get over 4 gigs of r/w speeds. Samsung advertises them at 550MB and I can't find any benchmark that goes well beyond that.

Oh I didn't even noticed that you weren't even using an NVME... lol oops

I think TC may have put rapid mode with that SSD with the Samsung software. It's the only thing I can think of on why he's getting those speeds with that particular SSD

It's probably rapid mode fudging up the numbers lol.

Should I switch rapid mode to the gaming SSD or not even bother?

Oh yeah that's probably it, the SSD just has the thing cached. Seems like a sneaky way of tricking benchmarks lol

Opinions are mixed on it: https://superuser.com/questions/742765/is-it-beneficial-to-enable-rapid-mode-on-a-samsung-solid-state-drive

Either way, just know that those 4k numbers aren't what you get in real world situations. Both drives are about the same in terms of speed.
