I think too many people in these states live with a false sense of security. We always speak about the country as a whole when we talk about cases, but we have a large country things aren't going to hit all at once. Look at Europe, you had Italy getting ravaged weeks ahead of countries like France. This virus is more like a field of landmines, it doesn't seem to spread in a wave but in random bursts. To that extent, I think we need to think about adjust any future lock downs since it's clear this isn't a one size fits all. We have states that weren't hit yet locked down, and then they couldn't do it anymore and had to open up as they peak, just like I mentioned in my topic about Texas, so the lock down didn't really minimize as much damage as it should have. We need to be smarter with the data we have and institute smaller lock downs based on where it's getting hit, not just nationwide so we don't have the situation we have in Texas. I don't know if there is enough data to actually do that, it could be a case of you needing to wait until its too late and that's not going to help, but we have some of the smartest minds out there, so hopefully with testing and tracing a large scale lock down is never needed again and we can do smaller ones as the states get hit.

I'm sure some right leaning posters will say the red states are fine because they aren't having New York like numbers, but it's not that cut and dry. Italy was a huge hot spot, and it doesn't come close to the numbers we see here. That's not to say we are doing worse, I'll leave that discussion for someone else, but there are factors in play that level the field and you don't need to be losing NYC numbers to be a hot spot.

Sorry for the long post, I know no one will read it and I don't blame them, I drank too much wine for some reason wine hits me in a weird way, probably the sugar. At the end of the day the only point of the topic is this is just heating up for the red states and they may not have the reserve chute that coastal states had when they hit their peak.
