Personally, I match the definition of asexual. But I don't want to discount the possibility of meeting a life partner.

Is there any use in coming out as asexual or should I keep it to myself?

There's a difference between being asexual and being aromantic.

You can be both, you can be either, or you can be neither.

That's not incompatible with asexuality at all

I genuinely don't understand how it can be a thing, but live and let live I say.

I'd say it's more of a descriptor of one of likely several different conditions, mental and physical.

You can be asexual and still be in a romantic relationship.

Yes, definitely strange that one of the primary biological directives passed down for billions of years is a big deal.

There are levels to asexuality, its not binary.

from most to least:

  • no sexual attraction whatsoever, no sexual urge
  • no sexual attraction but with urge (for example you deed but dont like other people)
  • sexual attraction but once things get too real being very close to the genitals of some else will gross you out (eg the V or D smell, the butthole whiff coming out of even the cleanest girl even right out of the shower , etc)
  • only feeing sexual once in a blue moon

What does legitimate mean?

I think it's something people can truthfully be, but I wouldn't put it on the same level as sexual orientation or gender identity.

I don't see a point in "coming out" as asexual. It's no one's business and most people wouldn't understand anyway.

I think the "legitimate" argument is centered around whether or not it should actually be considered a sexual orientation.
