Rock beats scissors? Fair enough, it smashes them and now the scissors are broken and can't be used.
Scissors beats paper? Fair enough, it cuts it up and now the paper is no more, left as tiny shreds of destruction.

But Paper covers rock? Then what? Rock has a little sleep? Hell if the paper covered it tightly, the rock would burst through it anyhow.

The rock is a strong but simple creature.

It becomes paralyzed by fear when blind

Rock doesn't smash scissors.

It just can't be cut by it. And rock is softened by paper.

In Swedish it's rock, bag, scissors. Then you trap the rock in the bag. But it's a soft bag like canvas, plastic or paper so the scissors can cut it. I guess these days it's canvas

Same problem though

Rock goes inside bag

Sweet. Now what? How is it defeated?

Is the bag full of some kind of acid that dissovles rocks but not plastic like in Breaking Bad?

It's locked inside a bag, so it's stuck there.

Paper covers rock...Rock is fine. No structural damage to rock. Rock can break through paper at any point. Just say the word. Paper sucks. It should be rock, dynamite with a cuttable wick, scissors.

Think of it like 2 people fighting using one of the three items as a weapon against the other. The guy using paper wraps the rock with it, but continues to hold the paper, snatching the rock from his opponent, hence paper beating rock.

What I want to know is where this "paper covers rock" nonsense came from. In my day, paper beat rock because it couldn't be crushed since it was already flat.

Have you ever had a plant

Watering a plant helps it survive. It helps it grow.

Yes, too much water will kill it. Just as if you constantly spam and spam and spam a water move, eventually a grass-Pokemon will faint. But it's not effective because those first water moves are helping it grow. Hence the resistance/weakness.

Likewise, heat helps it survive, helps it grow. Too much heat kills it. And cold helps it survive, even stratifies the seeds of some species. But too much cold will kill it.

Heat yes, Sunny Day helping those out. But we are talking types. No heat-types but literal fire-types. Which isn't doing anything immediately good to a plant.

Well now you are getting into some plants thriving in cold and others not. Which is addressed with dual typing.

Fire is great for grass though. Heck grass literally evolved because trees were weak against fire.
