What should I expect?

Once Berserk is over I'm thinking of picking up Yu Yu Hakasho or Rurouni Kenshin as those are 2 other shows I haven't watched.

if you end up liking Berserk, I recommend Gungrave, which is pretty similar.

and if you like Gungrave, I recommend Trigun. the story isn't similar, but it's from the same creator, and is also really good, IMO.

I seen the Berserk 2017 series and really liked it despite it's animation, but I was super confused through most of it. Guts in 1997 sounds like Goku I'm trying to move past that lol.

Dragon Balls first episode I found pretty hilarious. If they keep the humor like that throughout the series I may end up liking it more than DBZ.

Trigun was also a show I stopped halfway through. I may pick that one up too just to finish it. I've never heard of Gungrave I'll look it up.

I love the OG Dragon Ball anime so much I may even like it more than Z. But just a heads up the Red Ribbon Army saga is a fucking slog to get through

Original Dragon Ball is way better than Z. Like the above poster said, RR saga is a bit slow. However, it sets the tone for who Goku is and where he stands compared to other fighters. Making the following arcs even better.

Plus there are still good fights along the way with thought put behind their pacing and structure.
