I guess people are over character battles on this site? I guess I'm one of the few people that still think they're the most exciting.

Villains is in 2nd place, and that's a character battle.

I voted for the villain one; Im up for a character battle, but a villain only one again looked interesting. It changes the field up a bit since villains often end up lower tier.

You're not wrong, and for what it's worth this would be my second pick. Sephiroth is so weak now that I'm sure someone else would be able to claim the crown (probably Bowser).

I voted character battle, 90s game of the decade is definitely my second choice.

Villains sounds kinda fun, I wasn't here for the first one so it sounds pretty unique. We've also got some really cool villains since then.

Also on a side note, I'm really not a fan of the second chance bracket and break. I feel like it kills all contest momentum.

Honestly, any character or game battle on this site will just be a Link/Zelda steamroll. I know it's "all about the journey" and other cliche crap, but it just gets boring after a while. A villains contest would be a nice change of pace.

Anyway rivals sucked because it wasn't clear if the strength is supposed to be based on the rivalry or the combined strength of the two characters. It was a mess
Villains might be interesting because a lot of time passed and there were tons of new villains but................. who are we kidding, the strongest villains would be the same classic villains aka Bowser, Sephiroth, Ganondorf, Kefka
But eh who knows maybe there will be new strong ones

Personally, I'm much more about the games than the characters. In my mind it's just easier to compare games against each other, characters exist in so many contexts and have so many different narrative purposes that comparing Dutch van der Liende vs fricking Mario is just like, wuh? I suppose it just comes down to what you value but eh.

Also I'm way more confident in my ability to put together a winning game bracket. Persona 4 was a hundred votes away from making me number 1 on this leaderboard, and even after finishing fifth it stings

I don't think Bowsette would be allowed but I suppose. Still would just be the usual franchises just shifted over so instead of Mario and Link it is just Bowser and Ganon.

I am more for new characters debuting after a certain date (that aren't just reskins or alternate versions of existing characters). Cuts out all the usual shit stompers and mixes things up a little. Quotes or all fiction would potentially be fun too (even though with quotes Link would probably still win with "HEEYAAAAAHH" or something)

I was being a little facetious, since there's is no official Bowsette art to submit. I even tried making a Super Crown background since the user-submitted pics were stupid that year with separate backgrounds, but Allen didn't bite.

i'm curious how strict the rules are for the villains. like..could we get Zero in there on the back of him being a villain in the story of megaman X, prior to the events of the first game?

Ganon isn't as dominate in the Zelda pecking order. He actually lost to Magnus in the early years of the contest, so the idea of another villain beating him isn't unthinkable.

Ganondorf got boned by the sprite round, and the X-Stats for his division show it.

Seph would be the favorite because of FFVIIR, but you can at least make a case for Ganondorf or Bowser.

That's.... debatable

Sephiroth got 58% on Ganon in 2005, the same year he got 56% on Mario. As we saw in 2018 Mario got 59% on Sephiroth showing just how weak he is now. Ganon wouldn't get anywhere near that, but the idea of him sneaking past Sephiroth is pretty likely.
