Despite my disdain for Fornite, I might have to pass on Unity for this one...

I watched the tech demo the other day. Looks really impressive.

Made me wonder just how much photorealism I want in my games, though.

I love all sorts of games, and welcome all kinds of graphics and art styles etc, but as much as I enjoy games like RDR 2 and Uncharted and the like pushing for some sort of realism, I feel like there's a limit to what I'd enjoy. Don't feel we've reached that limit, yet. But I have this nagging feeling that if they ever achieve graphics and physics with such true-to-life realism that they're indistinguishable from life around us that they'd lose a little of their appeal. They'd feel like less of an escape.

I say all this with the admission that I won't truly know how I'd react to that level of polish in a game until I've experienced it firsthand. If the gameplay and story are engaging and fun I'm sure I could get over it. Just got me wondering is all.

I dunno you make good points, but funny they used to say the same about films as well...if you add color, sound, CGI, HD, 4K, 3D, etc you will lose something in the process, but that haven't happened yet (if anything it enhanced films in some kinda way)

And you can always go to the Retro/Indie games for games with those kinda aesthetics...
