The Mafia Twitter account recently came back to life, prompting speculation that the mobster series might be returning. Now, 2K Games has officially announced a new project called Mafia Trilogy for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The teaser trailer shows footage from the first three games in the series, spanning Mafia, Mafia II, and Mafia III. The trailer promises a full reveal on May 19, so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to find out all the specifics about the Mafia Trilogy like its release date, platforms, and price. 2016's Mafia III is the latest entry in the mainline Mafia series. Developed by one of 2K's newest studios, Hangar 13, Mafia III follows a character named Lincoln Clay who is seeking to start his own organized crime ring in a New Orleans-style city called New Bordeaux. The first two Mafia games, meanwhile, focused on the Italian mob.

The Mafia Trilogy teaser video shows the Hangar 13 logo at the bottom, so it appears the northern California studio is working on this game as well.

The announcement of The Mafia Trilogy comes during the same year that Sony and Microsoft are due to launch their next-generation consoles, the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, but it's unknown if the new Mafia game will release on those systems. The PC version will be available on both Steam and the Epic Game Store.

Whaaaaat I thought 3 was the worst, tbh. The only cool part was killing Klansman and throwing people in the gator filled water.

I'm so hyped for Mafia Remastered. My day has been made.

3 was great because of the writing. I don't know how accurate it was from a social perspective but it really made me feel like I was a part of that time frame, I like how unabashed they were about visiting this part of American history and not whitewashing it.

The driving was really smooth, soundtrack was great, decent variety of missions (even if a lot of them boiled down to standard side job affair of other open world games).

My biggest gripes were that the Bayou was just this big open underused territory, and those stupid supply run missions you had to do to develop your businesses were so repetitive and too long.

I've tried to like 3 a bunch of times. The beginning betrayal was so painful to watch for me I couldn't imagine a good revenge story with a such a dumb protagonist. I guess my issue with 3 is the drama is inflated. Mafia 1, and 2 are much closer to realistic scenarios that could actually happen to someone in such unique situations. Having said that, I do enjoy the New Orleans esthetic, Very refreshing.

The first game, I played in college so long ago and it left a very positive impression on me.

I played 2 and 3 back-to-back when 3 came out and was... pretty disappointed.

Well, all tastes differ, I guess.

Will wait until there's more out on it, making sure it isn't just a remastered version :/ There isn't much to go on a teaser.

Wow I'm surprised they're remaking 1. I knew a 2 remaster was coming but I thought that was it.

1 is a very old school PC style game so I wonder how they'll update it.

1 is the most ambitious one yeah. It seemed so advanced for the time. I played it not long before 2 came out and had a good time.

One cool thing is that people who play through the games in order really see how 1 and 2 together. It probably went over a lot of peoples heads since 2 was the first console entry. I always thought it was really neat. They'll probably update some character models too so it seems more seamless too.

Wow this takes me back. So 1's getting a full remake huh? From that voice, if that's supposed to be Tommy, seems like they're not using the original cast, which is a bit of a shame.

Yes. Mafia 1 ends with the main character being assassinated when he's an old man. You play as his assassin in 2.

I'm a fan of all the Mafia games. 1 was awesome at the time even though I played it on the PS2 (those load times!). 2 was even better and that ending was something else.

3 I really enjoyed. The story, characters, and atmosphere were even better than the previous ones. Lincoln, even if somewhat generic, was a fun an interesting character and I even felt Sam Marcano was somewhat likable and sympathetic. John Donovan stole the show every scene he was in. I didn't mind the repetitive gameplay. I had fun coming up with different strategies to taking things over and such. I feel that awfully buggy first release did a lot of harm to its reputation.

idk, I played GTA 3, Vice City and The Getaway before playing the first Mafia so it didn't feel like anything special to me.

Mafia 2 was glitchy for me the first time I played it and that left a sour taste in my mouth. It also just didn't feel like anything special when it came out.

Yeah I got that once, but thankfully I wasn't too far into the story at the time. Still very frustrating and maddening.

I've only played the first game, but I loved how it went into the darker parts of being in organized crime, instead of glorifying it. I would definitely play a remaster/remake of it. The controls were a bit...clunky.

Cool that we are getting a Mafia 1 remake. I just hope they don't strip too much of what made it great.

It is kind of blowing my mind that Mafia 3 came out in 2016. Like...holy shit it does not feel that long ago. These past four years have really blown by.

I didnt think about a recast. Man that would kill it for me. First game inspired me being really young.
