Had a pt code and they're all doing CPR on the bed with no spineboard (so it's literally doing nothing). And then we check and the pt literally has rigor mortis so they've been fucking dead for at least an hour, and when we hooked them up to confirm the asystole heart rhythm and this bitch doesn't know what asystole is. Plus we were there a few days earlier for a pt with covid-like symptoms but they still them shacked up with a roommate with no symptoms >_>

Seriously never put your folks in nursing homes. They have no clue what the fuck they're doing.

I spent some time in a nursing home in 2016 and it was a mixed bag. Some of 'em did their job well, and others were incompetent beyond belief. I assume it's like that in most places.

I've been to like 20 nursing homes and the only ones that give decent care cost like at least $80k a year to room in. Otherwise I've ALWAYS had some ******ed problem with all of them

I mean I was only there for like a month and I was fairly low maintenance, so maybe that's why my experience wasn't so bad.

Yeah, there are good nursing homes and bad ones

and its easy to say youll never put your parents in one until they actually need 24 hour care. So unless you can afford a home nurse or to quit your own job theres not much you can do

Yeah this is ridiculous. There are plenty of good and caring people working in nursing homes, unfortunately they tend to have low entry requirements because it's a job most people wouldn't want to do.

I think people have misconceptions about what nursing homes are and what level of nursing they actually have. They really only are required to do basic stuff like give medications, maybe check vitals, and other simple stuff. They are glorified caretakers. I think the nurse to patient ratio can be 1:30 at times.

Its sad but it is what it is. Thats why I would never send my parents or my wifes parents to a nursing home or any kind of home. I'll always make space for them at home, whatever it takes.

My mom used to work in nursing home and she has always said there are two types of nurses that work there, the overqualified nurses on the brink of retirement who don't want to stop working yet and idiots that probably had no business becoming nurses.

You won't believe how many times we get called in the morning for a pt that coded and they've actually been dead for hours. They're supposed to check them regularly at night but none of them do >_> This is multiple facilities that do this btw, not just one.

Some of them are overworked like he said. 1 nurse has to take care of like 20-30 patients. But others are just lazy/incompetent and nursing homes just have a lower barrier of entry.

Yeah, I'm gonna do what it takes to never send my parents to one of these places if they ever get really sick >_>

It can be a really good nurse and the patient can still be dead for hours. It's just how the nursing logistics are. 1 nurse 30 patients means it can take hours to check on the same patient twice. It's a nursing home and not a hospital ward, so they shouldn't have any active problems that need multiple checks through the night.
