I finished Pathfinder: Kingmaker and I'm thinking about grabbing it.

I hear good things, does CE have an opinion?

I played Original Sin 1 after playing 2, and honestly there isnt that much that carries over between the two games. There is a party member from the first game that shows up as an NPC at one point, so thats pretty neat, but nothing essential to the story.

If youre planning on playing both, start with 1. But itd be a shame if 1 burns you out and you dont play 2, because the sequels way more fun.

I specifically want to play II because I hear it's great, just didn't know if it's pretty connected or if this is more of a KotOR situation.

Just skip to 2. You wont be missing anything, they are set like 1000 years apart i believe

??

What does this mean?

KOTOR 1 and 2 were very heavily connected...Revan is mentioned a ton in 2.

Yes, but the way the story is told you can jump in in the middle and still know what's going on.

From what I could tell, OSII is set about 20 or so years after Divinity 1 and 2 (didn't play them, so I can't tell you how essential they are), while OSI is the first in the series by several hundred years, so there isn't too much that carries over between those two games, besides the same pantheon and a few immortal characters.

I guess one thing I forgot to mention is that the first area of OSII features many references to an antagonist in OSI, but I feel like you learn more about him from that area in OSII than actually encountering him in OSI.

The playable characters in OSII are not the same as in OSI if that's what you're asking about specifically.
