Took an awesome new job in March. Was furloughed from said job in April due to Covid-19. UI tells me that I haven't been with my new job long enough, so instead they look at why I left my old job. Since I quit my old job ( to take current job) that means I'm not eligible for UI.

I'd feel bad, but luckily knowing my tax dollars went to bail out cruise lines and air lines is keeping me warm and tingly inside.

I was denied recently as well. I wouldn't normally qualify but I did under some of the pandemic relief changes. Still denied. I personally am not hurting for the assistance but I've been helping out various family members and at the rate we're going, I won't be able to for very long.

That sucks man. Sorry to hear that, have you tried appealing? That's what my HR rep at my current job told me to do, but I'm worried that I'll get screwed in that process too.

That sucks

And cruise lines aren't eligible for loans. Atleast not the ones you've heard of

So the cute thing is that when you're furloughed you're still technically employed - you're just not working and not getting paid. So to get around that UI instead says I have to make a certain amount at my current job before I qualify.

I am but honestly I have no patience for this stuff. I'm tempted to just say fuck it and pick up my regular amount of work. Even with all the risk that is just easier. I don't know.

Good luck with your situation though. Don't be a quitter like me haha.

I'm right there with you. The tricky thing is my wife is immune compromised so it'd be really great if I could avoid working outside of the house. I'd probably be OK if I got Corona but if my wife gets it, it's another story.

My mom is as well but she told me she doesn't care and that she's been ready to die for a long time. I'd still feel bad if I were responsible for killing her though. The bigger problem is my sister and nephew, both of whom are immunocompromised as well. I am very close with my sister and haven't seen her in months. It's really starting to wear on us because our time together has been crucial to destressing from our lives. She's taking this very seriously though and if I start going out in public regularly, it will - best case scenario - further delay our reunion. Worst case scenario, we start dying.

It's such a shitty fucking situation, man. Fuck.

Damn, sorry to hear that. This virus is really screwing over a lot of people.

UI has been a nightmare for me. I applied, they sent me a letter, and my social is completely wrong. Like, all nine numbers. I don't know how they even managed that.

They're like impossible to reach by phone too, so I think I'm just screwed.

some states are worse off on that than others.
my roommate is still trying to get ahold of someone because he missed 2 unemployment checks because of a wrong address from before (he's not in dire situation) but it be nice to get the money that's there.

they say to keep calling but that isn't the fix if there's a busy signal all the time.

Jesus man, that's horrible. In your appeal I'd mention that your living with immunocompromised relatives - it may help, since under the cares act it specifically mentions that as being eligible.

So I'm not sure how your state is, but in WA my wife and I were able to break through by calling over 700 times in a day. Best of luck to you!
