Don't think anything will ever beat the shitstorm that was the PS3 store. Had a simple, quick layout that did the job just fine. A redesign slowed it to a crawl, with crazy load-times and periodic freezing.

There's no way most of these sites aren't trolling or something when they do changes like that. It's rarely, if ever, for the good and there's no way they haven't heard of every other website changing their layout and getting complaints. There's no way these people are that deluded into thinking screwing with the layout design is a good thing. I just can't believe it.

Part of what they do now is they experiment on people only rolling out some changes for some people.

They made my thumbnails way too big and I tried to write them to complain, I don't think they ever changed it back, or they changed it back but then slowly made it bigger just to fuck with my head.

Then of course there was the horrible change they made a while back to put other video links above the comments.

Anyway now on desktop there are these ugly category buttons on top and the home page feels even more full with like "stories" or something. idk it's a mess and it was plenty fine before.

These companies aren't stupid, you know. they don't just decide to randomly make changes. they do so based on their analytics of how people view content or what they click, and i guess their data shows that a lot of people find content based on recommended videos or tags from videos they watch. Putting those recommended tags on the home screen will likely make for more clicks off the home page.

They aren't geniuses either. A lot of their decisions are going to be art people trying to justify their own existence.

If these sites were truly about optimizing for the best experience they would decrease the amount of major changes with time as they got closer and closer to the optimal experience. And they certainly wouldn't remove things that people universally prefer.

Skype murdered themselves with their redesign. I mean, they seriously had a chokehold on that market for both the casuals and business, and castrated themselves for no reason.

All they had to do was just keep the lights on and peek their head in every few hours to make sure the kids didn't kill themselves, and they decided to burn the whole house down. ON PURPOSE.

I have no idea why, but there's no way they did that by mistake. They had to have wanted Skype to die for some reason, because there's no reason someone who's paid the big bucks to run bulti-billion dollar shit like that was okay with what happened. And even if he wasn't, why the fuck wasn't it reverted?

I think it's that companies don't know how to maintain, they feel like they should always be "evolving" but if there are no good changes to be made that usually just means "screwing up things for no reason."

So you can "See and engage with the community" because that makes YouTube more money, but the rest of us know better than to get involved with the community.

I mean, that's my guess. I don't know the official reason or anything.

Eh? I don't see how. Before I just had to scroll down to the comments. Now I have to do an additional click just to get to them. And ads will close it back up again meaning more clicks to get back to the comments.

Amazon, probably.
It's one of the few instances where actually making the user's life easier is actually more profitable.
