It devalues the degree when people with good (cheated) grades don't know how to do anything at their job.

Don't help someone do it because they'll be an idiot about it.

I never really cheated in college. I mostly just had to write papers for most of it so I couldn't really cheat.

Your classmates are future competitors in the job market. You should want them to burn. And you really shouldnt be ok with idiot hacks looking better on paper because they turned in someone smarter's work.

I'm actually planning to make a topic about really recent drama. At Rutgers University up to 126 people are in danger of expulsion over cheating on an introductory calculus online exam

The only time I really cheated was freshman year of high school. I was struggling in Algebra and my friend I was sitting next too was really good at it. I copied a lot of his answers. One time I got 97% on a test. I copied all of his work except for one problem, which I got wrong. My mom was so happy she was like OMG POLITICS YOU DID SO WELL ON THIS TEST MATH IS A HARD SUBJECT FOR YOU I AM SO PROUD!!! and I was straight up like "mom I cheated" and she was like oh =/

You shouldn't do it but literally everyone has done it at least a tiny bit >_>
Also I think this sums it up. Due to the value of people as human capital, it's in every individual's interest to increase their perceived value, which means cheating to keep a grade up. It's hard to see the university as a hallowed and sacred institution when you're paying thousands to go and the result you seek is employment more than enlightenment.

Which is why college is not for everyone.
Boo hoo, higher education should not be a right if you can't handle it.

From the perspective of the other side of the equation, cheating also impacts professors and TAs. It means more work and it means devaluing their effort. Most educators at universities are pretty much there for reasons other than teaching you, so when you blatantly don't give a shit about the effort, it kinda sucks.

I cheated in my intro to macroeconomics class, but that was because it was on a Saturday, and I didn't really care about it.

plus we took our homework, quizzes, and tests online, and the teacher used the same exact material each year, and idk if he even cared about the class at that point.

Youre paying for the piece of paper that lets employers know that youre moderately competent. If you can get good grades by doing the bare minimum, its hard to take any of it seriously

If you didn't really care about it, then you wouldn't have cared about what grade you'd have gotten from taking it without cheating.

Good on you for outing how scared you are for taking an exam for intro economics without having studied. I'm sure this was the only class you cheated in too.

Have those services where people will literally write essays for money been much of an issue in the US? I feel like that goes above and beyond whatever acceptable 'low level' cheating people might sometimes do

it was the only class that I cheated for, actually.

and it helped fulfill my transfer requirements.

edit: at post 22.

plus, I was taking about 15-18 units, so it helped free my time to focus on my other classes.

More common among rich folks and foreign exchange students (the former having money, the latter being bad at English in general). Sometimes it starts before they've even sat in a classroom seat a.k.a. cheating on their admissions essay.

Athletes that cheat generally have someone in the athletics dept. writing their entire paper.

Depends on the level of cheating

Plagiarism on a research project is pretty dumb, but using online resources for an exam is whatever

Cant really be bothered to give a fuck anyway when it's clear that (some) professors just rip exam problems from a book

Also, yeah, depends on the motivation for going to college. If you just want a job, then do whatever is necessary to get the degree. The job market doesn't reward honor and integrity

Yes, here comes the excuses.
"Oh no! I take too many classes that I can't manage, therefore it's my right to cheat because something something"

That's exactly the mindset of a chronic cheater.

lol, if cheating for one class equals being a chronic cheater to you, then sure.

edit: and I didn't say that I couldn't manage the course load, or that it was my right to cheat; I saw the opportunity, so I took it.

Pick a career youre passionate in and want to learn about then. People going to college because you need a degree is the problem. If you have no vested interest in being educated on a topic you want to know more about, you should just go to a trade school that is less time, less money, and more preparatory for getting a job anyway.

Any online class was a joke. I could copy paste the test and quiz questions and find the right answers word for word. Good for classes that didn't pertain to my major.
