Practically all FFs are linear aside from say WoR in VI. It's just that some mask it much better than others. XIII didn't even try to hide its linearity.

I'd say the illusion of nonlinearity; an illusion cultivated by clever game design and storytelling, is pretty crucial to the enjoyment of a lot of the players who hate FF13 for not having said linearity.

I'm not a big fan of FF 10 but it does linearity significantly better than 13 does.
