Curious about the effects of this

I do like how Biden supporters believe their candidate is so bad that he will bleed votes to the most conservative guy in Congress

It's more that we believe Trump supporters will dig in, while conservatives in purple states who are #NeverTrump will choose a more conservative person over their candidate. This would not change with a better candidate.

Also there's a common misconception since the internet is not representative that the Democratic party has to fight primarily for voters on the far left.

Most voters being fought for are still politically in the center.

This 100%

If you go on Reddit, where posts from r/BernieSanders and r/"OurPresident" are constantly bubbling up, you would think that Bernie was the next God Emperor of the USA, and was on his way to an easy win in the primaries. Then you leave reddit and the reality is he had a small following of single issue voters (mostly people that want free money to pay off their liberal arts degrees) that couldn't be energized enough to the point that they would actually vote for him.

It's very simple in the "who would beat Trump" argument, Biden has the best chance because his policies reflect the reality of the larger group of people. Biden has a chance to sway moderate voters away from Trump, while Bernie couldn't even scrape up enough "socialist votes" to win states where the moderate candidates were splitting votes 2-3 ways.

All that being said, any Bernie bro that is "boycotting" or "protesting" the election is directly helping Trump win. They are sooooo salty that their preferred candidate couldn't pull off the primaries that they are willing to risk another 4 years of Trump, which is on every metric a worse situation than Biden even from their perspective

Already I'm hearing that Amash will cost Biden the win in Michigan, but also cost Trump the win in Ohio.

Theres a common misconception that Independent voters are Centrists.

The Center is literally 100% Biden, there are zero centrists on the fence right now.

Who would you have voted for if it was just between Biden, Trump, or abstain?

Hard to say honestly, but leaning towards abstain or Biden. Trump has shown that he doesn't really know what he's doing when faced with a crisis.

That's not really true. But Republican centrists are remarkably solid in their GOP support, that is true.

Im gonna go with the millions of people who told pollsters in 2016 they were independent voters but were actually embarrassed Trump voters.

Youre either willing to vote for Trump or youre not. Its that simple.

The independents are the Bernie or Bust and the Amash-style legitimate Libertarian crowd, people who wont vote just because of party.

Yeah, this for sure. It has much more to do with the fact that Trump is so shitty that a small but significant group of actual conservatives are willing to vote for Biden, but some will prefer to vote for a non-Trump candidate who shares more of their views.

It's hard to know for sure if he'll drain more from Biden or Trump, but my intuition is that if you were willing to vote for Trump in the first place the option of Amash isn't going to stop you.

There are definitely people who regret voting for Trump, but what's relevant here is who they were going to vote for in 2020.

If he is worse for Biden than Trump (I have no idea if this is actually the case), I think it would be because hed get the votes from the weird Joe Walsh-type Republicans who were maybe going to vote for Biden because they find Trump to be so terrible.

of course that sort of person was going to vote Biden specifically because hes the best shot at beating Trump, so it wouldnt really make sense for them to vote for a third party instead

so having said that, I definitely think Amash is worse for Trump... but also I think hell be totally irrelevant
