I only played it once back when it came out and that was a rushed playthrough due to various life events. The Royal Edition is on sale now so here we go! I remember not liking a lot of things about this game but we'll see.

Not a great start, I have to admit. The opening text of 'A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers' feels so corny and cheap, it's almost embarrassing. What is it even supposed to mean? Like...why can't every other entry be for fans and first-timers? Is it because this one is more actiony? Modern? Not even a full minute in and I'm already rolling my eyes.

Okay, benefit of the doubt, remember.

There's a scene with Noctis and the boys fighting what I remember to be Ifrit...and the scene lasts less than a minute. Okay, a good peek at what's to come. Then Noctis says goodbye to his father and they just can't stop saying goodbye until all the exposition is over.

Then we cut to the crew pushing the car and that absolutely amazing rendition of Stand by Me starts playing which blows that load and they all talk over it and then the scene just ends after the title drop. I don't mean to sound negative so soon but everything feels really...rushed so far. Like, cheap? That's probably not the right word.

Cid is an asshole, and good god Cindy. I understand it's a hot environment but lordy lady, you work on machines all day. Cover up a little! You're just asking for some burns. Her tits are magnificent. Somebody spent a lot of time sizing and rendering those. I wouldn't be surprised if that one person got a specific mention in the credits.

I like the menu. It's visually pleasing without a loading time or anything. Don't care much for the different music but whatever. I also like you can adjust how far back the camera pulls during combat. More third-person games need that. I'm also impressed with the visuals. Everything looks p good and the lip synch is pretty on-point, even in non-cutscene conversation (a problem that most current games have, even the recently released FFVII Remake). The controls are fine, too. So far everything on the technical side I like or have no problems with.

The food in the game looks great. Just making it look so good makes me want to order one of everything to see it. Do food effects stack?

I already spent the load Cindy gave me on food. Time to do some hunts!
