I rather enjoy point-and-click games (other than HOGs) and have bought a lot in recent years. Going through all the Broken Sword games was a lot of fun.

Some of my favorite games are in the genre. But some get too hard and/or counter-intuitive with the puzzles for my taste.

Haven't tried DE.

disco elysium is fantastic.

only had enough in me for one run since, as an RPG and all, there is just way too much text that goes way beyond a normal point n click adventure.

The Journeyman Project and Trace Memory are the greatest accomplishments in the genre, IMHO.

I fucking loved King's Quest VI when I was a kid. Might be the most-played game of my childhood.

Not really unless you count like Runescape and Age of Mythology. I wanna play Disco Elysium when I get a chance.

It's incredibly good. Like, a legit game changer in terms of the dialogue.

I do and I have. I was disappointed by the ending, but the game was fantastic overall.

Pretty much this. I get the idea of the ending, but it could have been more fleshed out.

To be more precise, what bothers me about many games in the genre is when there's a disconnect between the lock and key design and the aesthetic decisions of its implementation.

For example, in Hotel Dusk, there was a puzzle where you have to manually rewind an audio cassette by hand. The game wants you to use the pencil on the tape, but you also have a flathead screwdriver in your inventory, which doesn't work. There's no reason you can't rewind a cassette with a screwdriver--at least, that I can come up with--but it's not the specific key to the specific lock at a design level. They had the screwdriver in your inventory for some other purpose.

This kind of stuff doesn't bother me in most genres but it's a major problem for the adventure genre since testing your logical skills and lateral thinking is one of the cornerstones of the genre. They could at least have a text box that does the following:

1. Confirms the attempted action is logical. "A screwdriver should do it..."
2. Explains why it doesn't work in this particular instance. "Oh. It's too big."
3. Explains that this is a dead end. "I'll need to find something else."
