feel like playing a souls game, it's been a while. I never beat the first, I made it as far as the crystal cave on the PS3 but lost interest. I played a little of III but didn't get too far.

which would you get?

As much as I love Dark Souls 1 and it started my love for the series.... combat-wise it just doesnt hold a candle to DS3. I recently went back to DS1 and lost interest

Imagery in 1 is iconic

3 is better mechanics wise

maybe it's just me, but I can't think of any area in which Dark Souls is better than Dark Souls 3, with the exception of how its world connects.

but with that said, I'd recommend finishing Dark Souls just because, as a sequel, you'll likely better enjoy Dark Souls 3 after knowing what it built upon.

I actually think 3 is a kind of mediocre game that rides to hard on the coattails of 1, but mechanically its great. As a whole complete package though, I think 3 is kinda lackluster.

3. Mechanically and combat wise, 1 feels dated now. It's just not much fun to play, it just feels old now.

3 is a better gameplay experience but 1, from the start through Anor Londo is perfect. If they didnt fuck up Izalith so bad it would be a top choice for the best game of all time.

I put Ringed City and Artorias of the Abyss as the 2 best DLCs ever as well.

Just to let you know, they changed up how you are matched with invaders. I believe it's based on weapon + levels and unique weapons scale differently.

I picked up the dragon tail sword because I grab everything I can in a run but then it opened me up for higher level invasions

Nah, 3 is objectively better gameplay wise at the very least, but 1 wasn't bad for it's time and still holds up fairly well.

This, so hard. Throw in that the weapons and bosses are also way better. One the things From Soft progressively does better every release, is bosses.

OoK, Maria, Ludwig, Logarius, German, etc... BB had much better bosses than 3

Solo, I've never paid for online on PS, DS3 has its share of good bosses but just like the rest of the game, it can't touch BB

Dark Souls 3 has some of the best bosses not only in the series, but just in games, IMO.

If it was a Devil May Cry game or some shit, I would love it. But since it's a Dark Souls game and having the best bosses isn't that high on my list of priorities for such an experience, I don't particularly enjoy the game. Definitely the worst Souls game, IMO.

Alright. Just was checking if maybe the experience is different, but I also play solo. Actually the last time I played through BB was the only time I played with a friend. Maybe that's why some the bosses felt more underwhelming that run. But for me it still feel like DS3 has it easy.

There's a general agreement on the most "challenging, but fair" Souls games, excluding special or remixed editions:
[Least challenging] Demon's Souls < DS2 < Bloodborne == DS3 < DS1 [Most challenging]

All Souls games are tough. You should choose the game based on how much challenge you're ready to take-on, TC.

I agree that DS2 is much better *with* the DLCs (I recently beat DS2:SotFS). However, I've heard that DS1's DLCs make it better, too (I haven't played DSR or DS1:PtD).

The only good parts of 2 are in DLCs and even then the DLCs are riddled with awful stuff like horsefuck valley, the base game isn't even worth a replay. Longer isn't always a positive thing

I'd say its more important to me to have interesting bosses than great/best bosses. Like, Maiden Astraea isn't a "great" boss, but it's the most interesting boss the franchise has ever produced and is by far my favourite.

I've beaten them all, plus dlc, from Demons to Bloodborne.

Dark Souls 3 is my favorite by far, but the magic and atmosphere of the first 60% of DS1 can't be missed either. Once you get to the lava boss the game ends very abruptly and is very clearly unfinished, and DS3 doesn't have that problem. Opposite, actually. Ringed City is my favorite Souls level/experience in the series.

I used to feel that 1 was miles better than 3 for years. But in retrospect I feel like 3 is ultimately the better experience. The best zones in 1 are still miles ahead of the best areas in 3.

But also... Bloodborne is better than both.

I still beat, and love, the game. But 60fps is what the DS3/BB engine should be running at.

I still beat, and love, the game. But 60fps is what the DS3/BB engine should be running at.

BB never got a pro patch, if I remember correctly. That's why I'm hoping that it follows Horizon Zero Dawn to PC, BB really does deserve the 60fps treatment
