When was the last time a game let you rename characters anyway*? Full voice-acting kinda put that practice out to pasture.

Unless you're talking about replaying old games.

*not counting silent protagonists

You know Idk why VA has to do away with it. It would just be a pointless feature. Like you name your character but you have a well known nickname everyone just calls you instead and you only see your name on written things.

I never rename characters and I get stuck sometimes when a game requires me to name a character without giving me a default name. Literally everything I think of seems dumb at the time until I finally settle on something.

Why ive come up with few names I always end up using in all gamea like that. Aiden for fantasy/medevil games Jet for anything sci fi cyber punk etc. Alexia or lexia for female characters.

That's what games like Mass Effect and Fallout do, just have everyone call you a nickname. But there was a time when games let you rename every character, like Square RPGs. But that doesn't happen much anymore. Unless the game has no voice acting at all.

I got stuck on the character creation screen on ffxiv for a long time and decided Im using that name for everything now. The other times I come across it is in Disgaea games where you have to come up with names for every character you create, my characters end up with some dumb names sometimes in those games lol

Now when I did make a orc in skyrim i did actually just use a name genrator online. Aiden or alexia didnt sound fitting for a orc.

Yeah, they have been listed but the last few games I had character names in are:

Skyrim
Fallout
P5R

...I can't remember Ys VIII, but pretty sure that was set.

Also in games like FF Tactics. I will always stick with the first party members you're assigned.

I once restarted an FFTA game several times 'cause i kept getting dumb names like Randall.

In Pokmon 3, if you play as female, the guy is called Brendan. But when you play as male, you are offered a list of preset names, and none of them is "Brendan". When you play as male the girl is May, but "May" is not offered as preset when you play as female.
