I broke a molar when I was younger, I had soft teeth or some shit, but the filling/cap finally came out and disintegrated when I was eating my kids Easter candy (karma?). I called my dentist but since I'm not in any kind of pain they wrote me some antibiotics and told me to get the stuff to repair it myself for a month or 2. I'm actually really impressed with how well it worked I built half of a temporary molar. This will be the hard times quarantine story I tell my grandkids.

Why would they prescribe antibiotics if you don't have a bacterial infection?

If the soft tissue of the tooth is exposed it could get infected.

Plus they just told him to DIY his tooth so the risk of infection is higher as he may botch it or have non sterile equipment.
